I hope a strong wind comes along and blows the remaining wall down. News to historians. Saving a wall is not creating a landmark. Get over your preservation of everything and let someone somewhere build something nice. 15 years of proven inept government involvement in the debacle that is the "entrada" to Santa Barbara. The only thing good that's come from all of this is the creative sorts who've made the Funk District something cool in town no matter how the city tried to remove them.

What, no controlled implosion for our enjoyment? After all this time they owed us at least that much. Bummer.

Does the Entrada project include the old BeBop Burgers? That place has been vacant for years. Not to mention the other side of the street. That whole area has been an eyesore for decades. I'm not particularly fond of the Entrada, whatever that entails, but anything is better than nothing. The city has been held hostage by flim-flam developers promising the moon and delivering nothing, and we all suffer for it.

Yes Entrada includes BeBop, the parking lot that was a car lot across from that and the coffee shop and California hotel as well as most of the funk zone. Yet it wasn't developers holding the city hostage. It was once again terrible negotiation skills and pathetic language in the contracts. There's no excuse for 20 years of tax revenue down the drain and additionally, such an ugly entrance to our town from the beach. Entrada will never get built and was a lame idea anyway. Timeshares and condos. Stop worrying about parking and get er done. Want to live there? Park on the street or have no car.

To save a whole lot of time and money, all they need to is set some random office fires - maybe add some jet fuel to make absolutely sure - and then wait for a couple of hours. The entire building will suddenly collapse, at freefall acceleration, perfectly into its own footprint, with the steel beams neatly severed into convenient truck-sized lengths, ready to cart away.

Don't forget the idiotic idea of City Planners and new wave traffic engineers that came up with narrowing State Street, an idea that thousands of residents opposed because of its foolishness, They claimed they needed wider sidewalks to make the area "pedestrian friendly"! Most of the area sidewalks were allready twice as wide as regular sidewalks, some three times as wide. The traffic congestion in the area was and still is in need of major improvements. The foolish notion that if you narrow the street everyone will start walking and riding bikes is classic naivete' rivaling the famous loine from field of dreams "if you build it, they will come". The illogical thinking processes of the city are incredible. They claimed in the downown area they had to widen sidewalks to make them pedestrian friendly, then they rented the sidewalk to adjacent restaurants blocking the sidewalks!
