These are fish eaters. Seals and humans are safe unless they do something really dumb.

I hope that is a thresher shark (nice to have the complete food chain intact), but that photo looks like a sea lion laying on his side, with his flipper showing.

Ah, sharks. I remember when we all ate shark. I still feel guilty. This pic is definitely NOT a seal.

OP here. I don't think sea lions have dorsal fins, lidless eyes and tails that are as long as the body. I know the photo is not that clear (phone photo), but I watched this guy for a while and he was definitely shark not sea lion.

Threshers are common this time of year between Ventura and Gaviote. We catch them and eat them all summer.
