Just Googled antheraea polyphemus. Definitely right on. Wikipedia has a good article on them.

2594... I doubt the lizard making attempts at the moth would know what chicken tastes like.

Definitely a moth due to spread out wings. Butterflies have theirs folded.

Wikipedia says this moth has a lifespan as an adult (i.e. with wings) of only one week, so kudos to you for finding it during its tiny time of showiness. Also, it says this moth is the one Gandalf whispers his message to in Fellowship of the Ring (movie).
