The police crack down on the local growers/dispensary's and this is what you get. So next time a story comes out about a dispensary bust don't say "great work SBPD!!" Because some people from south of the border are saying great work too and shipping the next boat. The black market has returned. Great work SBPD!!!

Wow I'm just wondering how long it would take for SBar to absorb 3 tons of pot? The illegals would 'disappear' in no time at all, and no street value was placed on them---? This stuff must be split up somewhere local and shipped around, hope SBPD can get some idea of the connections and make a big sting! I agree with 541 on some levels; if everybody would/could just grow their own a lot of this mess would shut down---but probably not the illegals!

Given the weight (6000 lbs) and street value ($10,000,000), the value of one ounce would be $60 and 1/8 ounce would be $7.44 . It appears the quality of these bricks would have no comparison to the high potency cultivar strains with special individual names that the shops have. Perhaps containing herbicides and pesticides as well, the market for dirt weed from the other side of the border attracts a different consumer market. This therefore is an unlikely replacement for dispensery products and is just a continuation of the supply that has been going on for many years, just with a slightly different delivery system. The suppliers have been so successful over the years they can afford to buy multiple super high performance brand new outboard motors as disposables, again and again. How did that war on drugs go ?

So many dependent druggies. So much dope. The mind boggles at the need. And for those claiming decriminalization was successful in Portugal did not do their homework. The decriminalized heroin because Portugal was having the largest increases in HIV anywhere in Europe and tried to get this dirty needle population into diversion clinics. Pot is still illegal in Portugal and they have no intention of making it anything else but. Facts can be such a jealous mistress.

It's delusional to think pot is harmless. It's more carcinogenic than tobacco, because it's usually held in the lungs longer, and it has been found to exacerbate psychoses. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2419713.stm http://psychcentral.com/lib/2012/cannabis-may-cause-schizophrenia-like-brain-changes/

Still looking for that country where pot is legal and freely traded on the retail market. Gosh, none do. Wonder why that is? Surely not all countries are as anal and upright as the US. What gives. Don't they know how enlightened this trade would be and how health giving its open access would bring to their populace?

yes, 587P, it can cause psychosis in some patients but is benign to most. similar to how eating shellfish or peanuts can kill some people but we wouldn't consider them deadly. smoking marijuana is not the only way to benefit from it. inhaling the crude combustion elements of ANYTHING is bad for you. i'm sure smoking newspaper or firewood is worse for you...

549: Actually the price per ounce would be a little over $104. Sixteen ounces per pound, 6000 x 16= 96000 ounces. $10,000,000 divided by 96000 = $104.16, still pretty cheap though.

It was heroin and cocaine in Portugal. And they did see pot use go up after they required diversion of former hard drug addicts into treatment programs, or else face criminal penalties and fines. I guess some would call that a "medical" benefit for pot. Stopped some of the heroin, but increased the pot. Addictions: increased anger, blame, threats - all the same whether it is pot or alcohol. If one was not threatened by the loss of pot in their daily lives, these thread would starve to death. If the rest of us did not feel threatened by the increasing numbers of unfunny pot slackers living off the rest of our labors, we would dry up and go away too. Truth in both these statements.

I still can't believe anyone thinks pot is so "dangerous", alcohol is 10xs worse and legal. Drunks turn into morons and many get violent. The drink itself can ruin the liver, causing a huge number of deaths annually. And then we have the driving accidents!

Quite a mess that has been created. What business(es) would the cartels get involved in when we take away their pot profits by legalizing pot? Doubtful that the cartels will just go away-they will just look for another high profit illegal business to enter. We will just have another new problem to deal with. With regard to the alcohol verses pot comparsions, two stupid self destructive behaviors don't make a right.

So much hysteria from the anti-pot contingency, I'd swear they just made the movie, "Reefer Madness" last week....... Sorry to have to beak this news to some of you, but humans have been seeking alter states of reality since the beginning of our existence and pot is one of the more benign substances used. The "War on Drugs" is more like a War on Humanity. What a total failure, imprisoning millions, costing tax payers billions and creating profiteering opportunities for black markets.

My mother was killed by a drunk driver in the late 80s- by the way, a district attorney refused to go look for after the guy escaped back to Mexico. So many dangerous things are legal and for sale in America-it's absurd. Either we can continue to make rich these big, illegal & foreign growers, or we could up-date the law with common sense and then step into a more logical world. The nation is, after all, broke. We need to change laws to create more "markets" and safety. By the way, legalizing gay marriage would also be a boon to the wedding industry, which has been bad for about four years now. Just saying...

FLICKA has the classic illogical argument. Even IF it could be shown that alcohol is 10x worse than marijuana, that is no reason to LEGALIZE marijuana. That's a reason to make alcohol ILLEGAL. Which ain't happening. So move on already. To the stoners out there....if you want to see marijuana legalized, the only way to do it is to allow big pharma to control and sell it. Which for all practical purposes cannot happen, because pot can be grown anywhere. For the same reason that oil companies refuse to allow our gov't to make laws requiring cars to not have internal combustion engines, big pharma will never allow our gov't to legalize pot. Pot use among high schoolers has climbed every year and is shockingly high (pun intended), just as our ranking in the world in school performance has decreased every year. The two are definitely correlated.

892: I'd moreso contribute the significant dumbing down of kids to things other than JUST drugs. Kids have been smoking pot for decades and some fail, some don't. Notice that up until recent, kids didn't have the same social media devices they do today. The number of factors contributing to development immediately falsifies your classic illogical argument that drugs are the sole cause of problems with kids. 549: Your price figures assume that every dealer and middleman is accepting wholesale and making no profit.

Using any sort of chemical to abort the normal emotional and cognitive development of young people is a recipe for disaster. Life does have pain and struggles until one finds the right (non-chemically dependent) path for themselves. And you can't make up for lost years to drugs or booze that stunted that necessary emotional seasoning.
