I just never understood why so many people who live in Goleta have RV's. I thought the day of the RV's was past. I know one of our friend's neighbors had a huge, ugly and very old one parked in their driveway for years and probably still do. Sure made the whole neighborhood look ugly, but at least it wasn't on the street. There is a need for a big RV parking lot where all these people can park them when they are not in use, which seems to be most of the time for most of them.

U need to move to Orange Co. 310. You would love it there. If u have your garage door open for more than 30 min. you could be cited. They have laws where you can only paint your house in 3 different shades of beige. Certainly no RV's! I doubt if an RV parked in someones's driveway makes the whole neighbor look bad. There are many RVer's that have beautiful vehicles and travel the USA. Some are like deluxe penthouse Apartments. Sounds like u have too much time on your hands. Go volunteer for something. Like cleaning up I.V. after all the transient students leave after graduating...

I just never understood why people take issue with others owning something just because they don't deem it necessary. RVs can cause problems on streets when they obstruct visibility of traffic not other people's view. How does one RV parked in a driveway make a whole neighborhood look ugly? That is just nonsense. It would be nice if there was a spot for unused RVs to park, they do have the storage places for them but I have heard that can be expensive.

@ 310 I think a large number of the ones parking long term on residential streets are permanently inhabited by transients and not those of residents of Goleta.

Way to pay the salary of former redevelopment employees. Code enforcement officer? Is this why we created a city in Goleta? To harass residents and businesses? I believe this guy is the same one who hassles small businesses about their signs. Another reason more people are more and more anti-government. There's too much of it that is too nanny state.

The good news is the Goleta Council is at least trying to create solutions to the transient problem and the bums who are using your city streets as a free campground. More than SB Council is doing, be glad for that. At least your Council is listening to the resident taxpayers and trying to create workable solutions. I think Goleta will just become a more pleasant place to live and work and the residents will feel like they have some input into what happens in their city.

310 - hope you're right about Goleta's future, but with all the development in the pipeline, development that the council is apparently powerless to stop, it is not going to be the place you recognize now.

Is this about people who own RVs and park them on their streets/driveways, OR about transients finding places to park their RVs? Two different things. I don't think the government should monitor what you own and where you park it on your OWN property. Common sense, cooperative neighbors, responsible citizens- NOT a stronger government!!

This isn't about people who park RVs on their own property. It's about people who use city streets to park their RVs. If you want to park your RV in your driveway or on your lawn there is nothing in this ordinance that would prohibit that. But yes, this is a way to move 'urban campers' along.
