Seriously, they get better photos/info than the news agencies around here by a mile... Anyone have any more info about what happened? Like why the driver/one passenger walked 1/4 mile away from the scene?

VW is always looking for drivers in their ad campaigns. Clearly this driver needs a little (a lot really) more work. With luck Mommy and Daddy won't foot the bill to pay for the damages or future insurance coverage and let this little lesson sink in.... if they have any sense.

The Urban Hikers are lucky they didn't get hit, that is one reason I personally don't like 'road hiking'. Good job on the report though guys.

I would assume that the UH arrived some 20-30 minutes after the accident happened, and thus were in no danger of being hit. I assume this because the Fire Truck has already arrived, and were not on the scene of the accident when it happened. I am also assuming that when the UH hear of an accident, they move from wherever they are to the location of the accident. Good reporting, UH. Maybe you should add the time you arrived at the scene as well, to preempt conspiracies.

There is nothing wrong with that road or any other road in SB. The problem is - and always has been - stupid, careless or drunk drivers (and at times a combination of all three).

wow, lucky no bicyclists, pedestrians or motorcycles were in the path of mr. toad's wild ride. i try not to generalize but the coffee can rice rocket muffler and cheap aftermarket wheels are so telling in this incident.

1st - We drove down Cliff Drive minutes before this happened (scary) and came home around 10 to see the mess left on the road, no one cleaned up? 2nd - This is the time of day the sun is directly in your eyes coming up that hill and blinds you, this could very well have been the problem. 3rd - VERY lucky there were no bike riders, usually riding double across the lanes there. Happy no one is hurt.

556 comment #2. The report indicated they were traveling toward Santa Barbara which probably puts the sun at their backs (or at least overhead) rather than in the eyes of the driver..plus the report also said they were driving at a high rate of speed. I suspect other issues were involved since one of the passengers was handcuffed.
