We don't need a stop sign. We need the speed limit to be enforced. The State and County REFUSE to do so. Instead as Edhat has so often noted, we got the $3,000,000+ "Field of Drains" along Foothill that was neither needed nor wanted. - Foothill Road resident.

People go so fast along Foothill, I routinely see speedy cars zipping at an estimated 45+ mph - and get static from impatient drivers when I go the speed limit.

Foothill through Cathedral Oaks has become a fast freeway. Cops won't do a thing about speeders until "they are 12 mpr over the speed limit"! This is a direct quote from SB Sheriff! I live on CO! I've had two cars crash through my yard in less than 5 months. I hope the two parties involved are going to be ok.

Folks, this is a STATE highway...we need enforcement from CHP---and they are stretched so thin with all the accidents on 101, etc......

I live on this corner & I run out to the sound of crunching cars WAY TOO OFTEN. We DO need a stop sign because people WON'T slow down, and you cannot see when you're coming up the hill from the Mission side toward Alamar, particularly this time of day. Since I do this several times every day, I'm telling you... We need to just require people to stop. Thats it. There is too much traffic on foothill anymore to just keep whining that the police need to enforce the speed limit. The guy in the grey truck... Skid marks clearly indicate he DID NOT SEE HER. Can I sue the county for emotional distress to get a process going to JUST PUT A STOP SIGN?

Although they aren't used widely in CA, "Rumble Strips" do work well in other states to warn drivers to slow down and use caution in areas like this.

I like 913's idea, rumble strips. I bet they would slow down the speeders there, and remind everyone that the intersection is dangerous. Has any local agency computed the average daily number of cars coming down Tye Rd. and needing to turn onto Foothill, I wonder? A stop sign would certainly slow people down, but I can imagine tailbacks all the way to Alamar and to Mission Canyon, both directions. Already on Fridays there is a long line of cars waiting at the stop sign on Mission Canyon eastbound on Foothill--sometimes it extends to Tye or beyond. I drive that section of Foothill almost every day in both directions, and am very careful around Tye Rd. But I'm an old fogie.

Very little to zero info on accidents on the CHP Incident site today. I saw this listed, but there was no info. good wishes to those involved and neighbors... for what that is worth. It's going to take a lot of work with the city to get help. SLOW DOWN SB. (I like those signs)

I am not really excited about rumble strips... Rumble.... Outside my bedroom window... When we could just HAVE A STOP SIGN. Which would also maybe prevent my sleepless anxiety over every damn squealing tire sound.....

909 - you will find that with rumble strips you will get some annoying noise . . . and with a stop sign you will get different annoying noise, the sounds of accelerating cars all night long, plus you will still get the occasional sound of a crash as some yo-yo runs the stop sign (but Ociffer, I didn't see any stop sign, and bsides, I was going too fast to stop). All sarcasm aside, a three-way stop is probably the best bet for this intersection, and with one already in place a short roll down the road, it will not significantly increase drive times or traffic backup through the area. Cheaper than rumble strips to install and maintain, too

What the heck, Janet Wolf? How many accidents? How many close calls. Stop sign, Stop light, rumble strips, Anything? ever? Just don't put a jacked up LA-esque traffic Island like the one you "helped" orchestrate in our neighborhood. Not at all like the palm tree flower bed one that we discussed. I am so disappointed in you.

Everyday (almost) for over forty years I've driven on Tye road, and have never felt the need of a stop sign. The only thing I do worry about is being rear ended when I'm sitting on Foothill waiting to make a left turn on to Tye. A stop sign there would definitely slow traffic; because of the stop sign further along I have occasionally seen cars backed up way past Alamar. Not to be desired.

I don't get it. There is a Stop sign on Tye Rd, isn't there? Or is all the brow beating about stopping Foothill traffic, a major thoroughfare and a State Highway, for the benefit of a feeder road? I don't see how traffic on a very straight road is at fault for the careless driving by the local residents. The reported head on collision implies that a vehicle turning left onto Tye Rd did not yield to oncoming traffic on Foothill. Who has the right of way? As someone who travels along this stretch almost daily my experience is that residents and service vehicles pulling out of Tye onto Foothill are too rushed to give themselves a proper margin of safety and therefore "cut off" oncoming traffic. I suggest residents living in the hills pay closer attention when coming down the hill and concentrate on merging safely onto State Hwy 192 rather than blame the traffic flow on Foothill.

Thank you, 076, you've restored my faith in humanity. As for everyone else, you can't just throw a stop sign in at an intersection and not have consequences, the least of which is non-compliance. If people don't feel the need to stop because there is very little traffic on the side street (Tye isn't exactly busy), people will blow the stop sign anyway, leading to worse accidents. There's a reason we have set thresholds for installations of stop signs or traffic signals. The benefits outweight the costs, and I doubt this situation warrants it.

046 is so right. Ditto on the concern about being rear-ended there--waiting behind someone trying to turn, I leave a lot of space in front of me and my eyes are on the rear-view mirror. If not a stop sign, what about a flashing yellow light?

I too am sick and tired of being tail-gated while driving on Foothill - and this is while going over the speed limit already!

i lived in this area for 3 years and still regularly drive and ride on foothill. i'd have to agree with 076, and 082, the negotiation of this intersection requires nothing more than a patient and attentive driver. furthermore, if you want a stop signed entry to the 192 one already exists for your neighborhood; you could always take cheltenham over to mission canyon. 195, if you're sick of being tailgated pull over and let said driver pass. the tail gaiting thing is another non-issue that i find so confusing. it's not your responsibility to control the flow of traffic, if someones going too fast for your taste let them by. end of story.
