He is wrong. Google will consider removing or blurring images but in practice they don't. We have repeatedly requested that our private street be taken off street view - to no avail.

Can they photograph and post people that are on the sidewalk or in their yards at the time of filming. I used to see that, but not recently.

Saw them driving downtown a few months ago, they just uploaded the images from when I saw them and I'm walking up the street, kinda funny to see myself on google maps.

And what's the TRUE purpose of Google's Street View? More surveillance of the US citizens, that's the purpose. Google has been in bed with the DOD and NSA for years. It's an amazing company, but a very dangerous one also.

As an Insurance Agent I LOVE Google maps because it lets me see the neighborhood of houses when a new customer, or existing customer call and want quotes. The reason that seeing the house is great is because it lets me view the immediate neighborhood for brush, steep hillsides and other hazards that potential clients do not always want to mention and that will get their insurance cancelled once the insurance company does an inspection. Also, looking down on the house I can see if there are other factors like swimming pools, guest houses, fireplaces, extensive decks or patios, etc. that customers again forget to mention and it helps me to get them a better quote. Another wonderful thing about google maps is that my family & I were able to explore a couple of neighborhoods we were house shopping in that were in another state. We were able to get a good idea about if the neighborhood had sidewalks and stuff for the kids. So cool!

Same here; it was a HUGE benefit when we were shopping for a new home. Being able to see what's near by without having to drive down each road...

I love Street View and I'm glad they're covering more and more backstreets and country lanes. It's called exploring without using any gas. Thank you GoogleMaps. 1628... If you really believe having your picture taken by the Googlemobile is dangerous stuff you definitely should not be commenting on the InterNets.... total invitation to disaster.

I travel in my small RV on business and it is a lifesaver to me when I'm looking for places to park around the offices I visit. Especially in a city like San Francisco. I've seen the Google cars in cities all over and recently was passed by over a dozen of them in a convoy when going across US 40 near Flagstaff.

628 I'm glad you are aware of what is happening in our country. Most people are too caught up in everything to see what is right in front of them.

@628 / 802 - So driving around on public streets once ever 3 to 6 months is a surveillance program to you? You know that your cellphone (even your old dumbphone) tracks you everywhere, your actions are all trackable online, and your credit card / debit card information is easily mined. Try to keep your paranoia in perspective. If Google really were in the business of spying on behalf of the government, why would they do it in big, brightly decorated cars? I mean, when you can hide yourself by simply turning your head when they drive past, is it really that effective a system? Or do you think the government is both omnipotent AND incompetent?

827-Yes we are aware that cell phones track everything we do, and we aren't happy about that either. Have you ever read 1984? If you have, you obviously did not get the point Orwell was making.

Love Google maps. I think it's funny people flip him off, or are upset their "private street" is on there. There are far more nefarious invasions of privacy to be concerned with.

That's a separate thing, 083P. They're working on self-driving/robot cars, but those aren't the "Googlemobiles" that take pictures for Street View stuff. Still cool though.
