No. No. And No. I thought we'd decided that this was a bad idea about 10 years ago.

Post Ranch Inn has no beach access and yet it seems to be working pretty well.

Isn't that a risk for disturbing the seals and the rest of the ecosystem of the bluffs? This is as stupid of an idea as there has ever been in our area. NO. Just no.

Go Jack! Sounds like a great project that will bring jobs and tax revenue to the area. So of course everyone should shoot it down.

I'm for it, and concrete balls on the ocean floor. Let's welcome everything.

Money-grubbers unite. Cover the planet in concrete. Help push forward the 6th extinction. Carp and Goleta, protect the rest of us from this rape of our county. Every square inch seems doomed to be built upon. All those of you who are pro-development can go back to L.A. and East Coast or wherever it is you hail from. Embrace your love of despoliation elsewhere. I'll help you pack.

Rob-are you saying that Big Sur and the scenic Carpinteria Bluffs (quietly wedged between the freeway and the railroad tracks) are comparable? If so-it sounds like a winner of a project and it should proceed in all haste.

836, this is about covering 5 acres with these concrete balls. Not any other part of the coastline. I welcome it.

I guess all those houses that are being built on the mountain side of the 101 just lost the ocean views.

Crazy NIMBY's will never stop their whining. They all cry about the latest change, no matter what it is. The carp creek bridge, the main school conversion.. Hah! it all turned out just fine and works great with the community. All of these nuts live a long ways away from it. NONE of them walk this weed infested lot. It is miles from seals, whales, neighbors and anything that anyone really cares about. BUILD IT! Make it pretty, make some tax revenue and hire some locals for jobs. Bravo!

The property is already zoned for a hotel, so what do you people want or expect--- a two room b&b?!

Why doesn't he spend his money and rebuild at the Miramar site? Or a joint venture with those folks at that location?

Those of you who want to put a park there just need to raise they money to buy the property. Otherwise, all you can do is influence what's eventually developed there. This plan sounds doable, and there will be no stairs crossing the tracks to tie the property to the beach, only the proposed city-owned bluffs trail that will eventually cross the tracks near Rincon County Beach Park. So beach impact should be pretty minimal, and traffic shouldn't be too bad. If the site is developed tastefully, all the better, and we can use the resulting City tax to help pay for park upkeep, the city pool, and other Carp amenities.

024- Because he wants to make money not waste it. Miramar is financial suicide, a classic case of over priced real estate.

If you know the location, then you know that the seals are not threatened. The location is Bluffs III, where no beach access exists and the property sits virtually on the very edge of Santa Barbara county's southernmost border. I live in Carpinteria and love it's small town feel and would never want it to be jeopardized. That said, the remoteness of the suggested location is, in my humble opinion, perfect for the proposed construction and I would welcome the existence of a higher quality facility to which to bring my friends and family when visiting from out of town. At best now, I can only offer a Best Western or a Holiday Inn Express in Carpinteria -- or send them miles up the road into Santa Barbara. Neither do we have any facility such as the one proposed where we can book and hold parties, events and social gatherings. Professional organizations, groups and gatherings would bring dollars into town and yet be remote enough not to further clog downtown streets. What could be better? I'm for it and strongly support the idea. I hope it is done with taste, vision and a sense of environment.
