807 - that's what I was thinking too. In order to offload over 3 tons of weed plus move ~15 people, there would be a need for a truck at least the size of a delivery truck, or several full sized vans. Loading that up next to 101, even in the dark of night would be pretty risky. One car goes by and wonders why there's activity in a remote area and the law would be there in a hurry. Perhaps the intended landing is one of several private or semi-private beaches that are easily vehicle accessible. Hmmm, wasn't there a big bust at DP Ranch awhile ago? Greenhouses full of weed as I recall.

Two and a half tons would only be offloaded where cars have access to the beach and far from a busy highway. One has to hope the investigators will finally follow the dots.............HR

Two and half tons of pot. What sort of beach landing equipment can unload 5000 pounds of anything in the middle of the night? What would they do to any innocent beach goers who stumbled across that sort of an operation? Why do people let their lives get so out of control they need pot to bring them down?

We walked the coastal path bet. Ref. and El Cap last month 6 days in a row. I spotted a 5 gal. jug of water sitting on a rock. I kiddingly said to my husband I wonder if that is there for the panga boaters. there were no fishermen about who could have left the water there. After looking at it for a few days, we dumped the water out. surely, someone local is 'arranging' this.

maybe city council should paint the coast rainbow colored, and install bulb-outs along the beaches. THAT would slow them down!

Legal means it can be traded openly in licensed shops, taxed and regulated like alcohol is "legal". De-criminalized means it exists, but is subject only to any other existing peripheral regulations like paying taxes on all income derived from its coincidental sales. No country sells pot legally. Some countries de-criminlized it but are hardly good examples for what it does to their economies. Singapore stands out making its use or possession a capital offense death penalty, zero tolerance activity and they are thriving. Imagine a country that scores high on just about every index does not need pot to get through they days.

Why hasn't anyone asked the really important questions? If these panga boats that have been washing up abandoned mostly along the Gaviota Coast are bringing in from Mexico thousands of pounds of canibus as depicted in the article how and where do they offload the boats and load the drug into ground transportation? This is not small bags of heroin or cocaine. It is tons of weed in bales that likely weigh a hundred pounds. It seems highly unlikely they carry it up from the beach to vehicles parked in the open alongside the freeway. Hmmm, think of a beach where one can drive onto unseen. Miles from any public road. A place that is protected by hired guards 24 hours a day. Think hard..........

Seriously 475? Just had to get a jab in there at the expense of "debunked" global warming?

Helene Schneider and her pals are the ones planning on building the huge cement wall to stop the city from getting flooded from global warming. The whole point of the Blue Line was to warn us to start building that sea wall now, or else. Added benefit, it would prevent panga boats from coming ashore.

@558 No he is not. I guess maybe he is, if you think Obama is our first Muslim president and was born in Africa. I wont rave about the guy, plenty of actions and inactions I dont like, but lets not sensationalize and exaggerate political differences. I also dont think Romney is all bad. We all have the same goals but different ideas of how to achieve them. If you dont believe that then political ads and sensational journalism has already clouded your judgement. Think for yourself dont let others think for you.

Glad they got it before it was emptied. Empty pangas = illegal profit and more inbound pangas. Good work.

Finally, one is actually caught. How many others do they find parked on the beaches, empty, in the am?

@484 Romney would build giant cement wall sticking up out of the ocean to protect us. But he would let the free market decide and use leaded cement and every thing in the ocean will dia. The resulting rot of dead animals will breed new diseases and the human population will suffer a mass die off. See I can make up stuff too.... And I used just as may facts as you. Fun game actually lets keep it going.

484 - A quick solution to that Obama policy is to use armed drones when a panga is spotted. Problemo solved, case closed.

I don't understand the difference between legal and decriminalized. If pot was legal or "decriminalized", would people just smoke it in the streets and outside of restaurants, workplaces, and classrooms like they do now with cigarettes?

Demand generates supply. Decrease demand, decrease supply. But that is not reality I know. How about decriminalization then? Decriminalization does not equal legalization. Pot use is not going to magically just go away with a law against it just like alcohol consumption didn't during prohibition.
