Sailing is a water sport, that's why life jackets are mandatory under Coast Guard regulations.... those pesky, interfering regs again. If we weren't so spoiled by our helicopter parents we'd be able to figure out to swim to shore.

119, don't blame the victims of a scary, life threatening event until you KNOW FOR SURE what is actually happening. Deciding on your own what is going on isn't helpful, factual or responsible. It's just snarky and it serves to help nobody.

300119 - and supposing during an accident, an injury occurred such that a person could not swim back? Then what - just let them drown?

@154

None of us are going to make it out of this world alive. Use common sense, be nice, and take advantage of every day that life has to offer.

Now, how that sail boat bumped into the pier is beyond me. All the people on it I would say were in their 20's (I was there) but did not see anyone except the lifeguard driving his pickup on the beach like it was the end of the world in distress. I'm glad that no kids were run over, a couple of close calls though.

154P, then you just let them FLOAT since they'll be wearing their life jackets!
