The Arlington is cited by KEYT saying the shooting was not related to the film itself...
That's false! The shooter tells police he's the Joker, had his hair dyed orange.
Shut down the film for a week while the nation mourns!

Your chances of being shot in a theater are slim. The media will build the fear angle of this tragedy. Do not be scared!

916, yes the shooter dyed his hair orange. So what? Just one more incident of people hating gingers, not Batman.

Hurry, put TSA at all the theaters and strip us of our 4th amendment right, just keep the sheep safe!

Anyone know exactly what security measures are being implemented? I have one, if not suggested already, card key or pass code all side and back exit doors making them one way. Meaning you can go out but you can't go in them. If I remember correctly that is how the gunman got in did he not? Metro, I am sure, can afford to do this if they have not already.

People sneak in those theatres all the time and sleep. Used to hear about it in Chicago when I was a kid. I still here it about it once in a while.

950: the doors are one way. The shooter apparently bought a ticket, blocked it open on his way out to collect his tools of death and then came back through the blocked open door.

Its a terrible tragedy but the likelihood of a copycat is no greater than with any other horrible crime. I've heard far more concern over copycat crimes than actual copycat crimes.

Ok, so it's easy to leave through the side exit doors. Doesn't an alarm go off it's between the time the last viewer exits the theater and when the next film ends?

That seems so easy to set up considering a cleaning crew always enters as patrons leave, even if for a few minutes.

A crew member could easily do a re-set on the door or alert the projection booth that people are all out & it's time to flip the switch.

Easy-peasy, it seems

Measures to secure movie theaters are silly because this was a unique event and a unique and unusually deranged person. No, what was common about this tragedy was not that it happened in a movie theater, but that a deranged person was able to readily buy lethal guns and over 6,000 rounds. The founding fathers did not have this in mind when they wrote "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, ...". The reason that the meaning of the 2nd amendment has been so perverted is because there is massive amounts of moolah in the gun industry, which owns the NRA lock, stock, and barrel.

why is CNN calling it the "worst mass shooting in US history?" why more were killed... in say, Virginia Tech?

916, I believe it is because more people were actually shot, even though not as many died.

I've got an idea that will solve the mass murder phenomenon AND secure the 2nd Amendment rights to all citizens.

Think about it. When the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was written, what kind of weapons did our Founding Fathers have in mind? That's right, a musket. Or a Bowie knife. OK, let's allow today's Americans only the weapons our founding fathers used. A musket. A knife.

Can you imagine what would have happened if some wacko went into a theater today and shot his musket at the audience? By the time he tried to reload, he would have been restrained by 30 theater goers.

Let's get back to our roots as a country. Arm all citizens with muskets, and only muskets! We could end mass murders in a day! Going through security at airports would be a breeze, 'cuz muskets would so easily stand out.

Next problem please.

069 - Or he could have just brought one of his apartment bombs and blown a hole (pun) through your well thought out theory.

Easy peasy, 105, here's the solution.

Outlaw the materials that make 2012 apartment bombs.

Only lawful devices that our For Father's possessed (at the time the 2nd Amendment was adopted) can be owned by Americans.

Or is outlawing the materials to make apartment bombs crimping our civil liberties? I'm serious, clue me in.....

A skilled licensed carry could have taken him down before he shot 50 people. Prohibition breeds crime.

We cannot protect ourselves from Manchurian candidates, now can we?

Aside from that IF we really wanted to protect ourselves we would stop psychiatrists from being pill pushers.

Oddly, the FBI posted and quickly removed a threat and concern that someone was going to create mayhem in a movie theater.

Now go back to sleep please or leave the TV on.

069- so when we make only muskets and knives legal, everyone including all the criminals are going to march to their local police departments and turn in their now illegal weapons? I don't see any problem with that logic.
