I wonder if Joni Gray has any exposure in this mess? Her husband worked for those groups and she had other connections to them but didn't recuse herself from any votes until County Counsel said she had to. I guess she will have to answer these questions during the political race to the fall election. If her challenger wins we will have another conservative supervisor on the board that will oppose any land use regulation.

There is a line between "compassion" and doing good and criminal negligence regarding the fiduciary control of public funds. Some people get so carried away with the mission, they forget it is not their money to spend. Progressives have no end of reasons to spend other people's money. That is a given. Conservatives want control and accountability when exactly those funds are being spent. There is a line where both can work together. There really is, but you can't stack the deck on one side only. Voters, please maintain a balance among your elected representatives who are your watchdogs. Don't let the pendulum to swing too far in only one direction. Always season both sides of the political spectrum with vigilant care takers. Enough of this partisan divisiveness. Make room for both. The Tea Party belongs at the table too, if you have also set a place for a Tax and Spend Liberal.

551 talks about the partisan divide, then uses partisan language. Practice what you preach! :)

SY: I don't know where you got that out of 551's post. Perhaps you misread it?

Sadly I can't quote posts or else they'll be Nanny'd. Which is kind of a weird rule... Makes it hard to have a debate about what someone did or didn't say. :(

SY, I'll help you out. I never said we need to eliminate partisan view points. I said there needs to be a balance between the two. Make room at the table for both sides and stop demonizing one or the other. But labeling these two points of view is perfectly okay because each has something to offer. Best results come when accommodation is reached between the two - not consensus or homogenization but any feel-good project also needs to be fiscally accountable. And there you have it.

As a progressive I want full accounting of where our moneys go, local or federal. The crimes of the banking industry have not been perpetrated by "progressives", but by self labeled no government (no oversight) conservatives.

Joni Gray, who has her fingerprints all over this mess, is a conservative. Steve Lavagnino is a conservative. Do either of them have anything in the record calling for more oversight of this program? Please don't try to sell me on conservatives being fiscally responsible. They are only fiscally responsible on cutting social welfare program, but when it comes to public safety and defense, it is spend, spend, spend, baby!

What you label as a banking industry scandal was part of the progressive agenda to get homeownership into the hands of more and more people, even when they could not afford it. The banking scandal came only as a secondary factor to the forced mandates making home buying more accessible to more and more marginally qualified purchasers. Few escape blame here, but the initiator was the progressive agenda that compromised it for everyone - essentially giving away homes or else. The banksters responded appropriately to this progressive regulatory gun to their heads. Try and spread the risk.
