Watch out for the NIMBY's ! Every year there is some new crisis that everyone gets worked up about, AND it always works out fine and things are better than they were before. Cases in point: 1. Carpinteria Creek Footbridge: replacing a decrepit old wooden foot bridge. 2. Main school conversion to non-profit hub and resource center and fast start for young kids. * The outcry for both of these was unreal and rediculous. BUT, of course, it all worked out fine. The community is happy and life goes on. NOW the NIMBY's are ont it again about the overpasses. Just watch the theatrics.. but it will also turn out just fine. Hooray! (idiots!)

They don't want a big city bridge in their small town? What does that even mean? The freeway is being widened because there are more cars on it. Why? Because there are more people in the area than there were in the past. The bridges are old and need to be upgraded and yes made bigger to accomodate the wider freeway. The population isn't decreasing, it is increasing. Things are going to change to accomodate more people. No amount of whining is going to change that fact. And if you have children or you moved to this area from somewhere else you are part of the reason for the increase in people. So please just accept that these changes need to be made. "Big city bridge" now I've heard everything...

I'm down with bigger bridges here, as long as that means a longer merge northbound from linden onto the 101. that ramp is about 200' long and ends awfully quickly... i've had many a close call there.

I'm all for a larger bridge at Casitas Pass Rd *if* they rip out the McDonalds and the Arco gas station that present a really crappy gateway image to Carp. On the other hand, like a Hollywood stage set, having those two really crappy looking businesses there that make it look like some generic exit in the San Fernando Valley probably keep many folks from LA heading on to SB, so I'm not complaining too loud. You can have them!

232, In the last census Carpinteria had a decrease in population. Caltrans came up with the 5 lane bridge idea 10 years ago when it was thought Carp would grow dramatically. Since it didn't there is no need to go crazy and try to make us a "big city".

Flicka how is adding more lanes to a bridge making Carp a big city? That bridge is a nightmare to use, more lanes would allow traffic to flow easier. No town ever went from a small town to a "big city" because they made a bridge over a freeway bigger. The freeway itself needs more lanes because there are far more people driving through your small town on the way to and from SB. I also would not put too much stock in the census numbers, I'll let you in on a little secret, not everyone stood up to be counted.
