It is about time this happened. They need handicapped curb cutouts in the area too. I got stuck in my scooter trying to leave the mission after visiting I Madonari. I had to go back up to the mission and exit through the driveway to get off the grounds. It was not only frustrating, but really dangerous.

This is such a beautiful area and there are so many sites to see and visit that it needs to be made more user friendly and above all safer!

Not to mention that this route is the primary access to state route 192. Whenever I bike through there it seems safer to move into the center of the lane until you are past the bridge rather than having cars and trucks trying to pass you in those narrow lanes.

186, EXACTLY. That is exactly what you are supposed to do and what would make this area safer if everyone just took the whole lane on a bike through this area. It's a narrow road, but the issue is more that people just don't know how to deal with a narrow road, not that it exists. 177P is right too though, handicapped accessibility needs work.

This is an historically and culturally rich area begging for good pedestrian connections between the Mission and the SB Natural History Museum.

But presently, these pedestrian connection some of the worst and most dangerous in the city. Particularly when used by out of town tourists, who are not familiar with the multiple and now recognized hazards.

To wit:

1. broken sidewalk access

2. rough pavement, roots, uneven surfaces,

3. no cross walks where required,

4. chronic speeding,

5. impaired sight lines,

6. cross walks than end in the middle of a bus stop,

7. requirement of multiple, busy, high traffic street crossings just to go in a straight line

8. dismal to no signage

This is one of the more beautiful areas in town. I guess we can say bye bye to that. I am all for safety. I live in the San Roque and walk/ride to the mission once a week or so to visit the rose garden. As someone who regularly walks in this area, it is not as bad as some of these comments make it seem. Please go easy on the dayglo signs and formed white concrete sidewalks.

Walking from San Roque to the Mission and Rose Garden is not walking from the Mission to the SB Natural HIstory Museum. Stay focused on the problem. Everyone is looking for a sensitive solution to the safety issues.
