This is fascinating to me! I wonder how facial recognition software works (or it's military component that it is derived from...yes I know all about bitmap image memorization and mapping tech) operates and how much better the human brain is at this task and why... It is absolutely necessary in my lines of work and I applaud the research. I am always fascinated by eye/brain study and research. It is one of those aspects to human physical evolution and development that makes even devout atheists believe in a deity or divine intervention. Simply beyond our grasp at the moment...fascinating.

Eye-brain function is an integral part of my horticultural life. I'm constantly ID'ing everything I see. I often wonder what others without horticultural backgrounds see when they are out and about in nature. "tree" "grass" "yellow daisy" etc. For me it's down to species and variety. I embrace this, it makes my life so rich, yet I wonder what my brain activity would be if I was say, a piano teacher. Would I "hear" every sound as music?
