I think I'd be willing to take the 154 rather than sit in this traffic jam!

154 is not much better during commuting times

OP here. It took an extra 20 minutes to get through Gaviota.I left downtown at 4;10 pm. I purposely changed work schedule to 7 am to 4 pm to try and avoid 'peak' traffic times in my daily commute between Lompoc and Downtown SB. It takes 15-20 minutes extra to take the pass (SR 154). I was a passenger when taking the photo.

Left SB at 4:30. The slowdown added 20 minutes to the trip home. Hope Caltrans cleans up all the litter that we get to stare at as we creep along. Medians, roadsides are a mess.

We came through going north about 830pm. The traffic wasn't bad and kept moving past the Hwy 1 turnoff.

It hasn't been that long ago that the highway was resurfaced that would have been a good time to correct the drains. Not very good planning or communicating it seems. The people who use the highway are inconvenienced again and waste expensive gas.

This really makes a mess.

The extra traffic on the Pass means that cars back up on the 154 from the Calle Real signal back beyond Foothill/Cathedral Oaks.

The drive home on the pass took an extra 15 minutes yesterday at the 5:00pm hour. Seems that it would take even longer for the Lompoc folks to take the pass than to sit in the traffic. Stay on 101 so I can get home in time for dinner ;)

I was going to take some guests wine tasting in the SY area next week - Friday afternoon. So, if we're going against the commute and driving times will be around 1 pm going out, and around 5 pm coming back, will this affect us?

It hasn't been bad coming to Goleta before 7, but yesterday took an extra half hour on the bus at 5pm. It would be much better if people knew how to merge into one lane. Once it is one lane it moves pretty well, but some have to try to get a few spots ahead and will move over into the "faster" lane (the one that has to merge) and make it slower for everyone. Then people don't want to let them back in, so they keep creeping along trying to force things.

I also wondered why they didn't do it when all of the paving was going on. Then again the fresh pavement is already getting badly torn up on Nojoqui grade, mostly in the slow lane that trucks use, but a bit in the others too. I bet in less than 2 years it'll need repaving again.

Lastly, on the bus I can look out at the other drivers and was amazed at all of the people violating the hands-free cell phone law. I would say 80% of the drivers I saw in about a 15 minute stretch had phones in their hands while driving.
