We are the owners of the beloved rooster who lost his life in this story. We also feel very bad for the poisoned bobcat. Our chickens are not routinely free roaming, just on weekends and when were around on evenings. The lesson I learned here is to contact SYV Wildlife Rescue WHENEVER I am in doubt about an animal on our property. Had this bobcat not been poisoned, it is very unlikely he would have taken up refuge under our deck. Please do not set out any poison/pesticide for any reason. Live animal traps are readily available and organizations like this wildlife rescue teams are eager to assist. Live and let live please. Lisa & Mike

Lenz Pest Control does the rat trapping around the waterfront as part of the city's IPM strategy and they are awesome! Those rat traps are baited with peanut butter!

I can also recommend Lenz. Although I was told that the poison they use in their traps would not harm a dog (and they gave me printed info that indicated that) I, believing they were right about large dogs, but caring about smaller animals, insisted on traps without poison. They placed traps, large ones of the type you can see around the waterfront, around my lower east side city lot, checked them weekly, caught three or four/week and after more than a month of this, the extensive rat population was knocked back and I have not had the problems this summer (so far) that I had last. Also, the spring traps kill instantaneously; the poison is relatively slow-acting, decoagulating, and rats, as well as bobcats and dogs and owls... suffer. I'd recommend giving Lenz a call and having them come by and giving an estimate --- and I also recommend telling them clearly that you do _not_ want the traps with poison used.

That is so, so sad! A good cat and a couple of electronic zappers can take care of a LOT of rats, and the cat shelters often know of semi-feral cats who would be willing to take on the job. Please, people, don't use anything around the yard that you would not be willing to eat yourself!

After having my dog get poisoned last summer, and seeing just how sick she was and how expensive it was to pull her through it (she did survive), I am against poisoning. Yet, we also have a rat over population in our yard. We bought an electronic rat trap at OSH this weekend, and snagged 2 rats in 2 days. At almost $50 it is expensive, but it is also the most effective trap we've used.

The rat poison they use in those bait traps kills every other animal that ingests the poisoned rat. I see them around where I live and where I work. They are horrible and cause a horrific death to wild life and even our pets. I wish they were banned.

We fired a pest control company on the spot when they told us they do not use poison, and then I caught the guy red-handed with rodenticide. Don't believe what they tell you!!

The Pest Control companies - all of them - keep telling people that the bait that they use in their bait stations is not toxic to birds and other wildlife. They lie. Isn't there any way to stop them?
