Sick freakin guy. I hope people can learn from this to report these things before they happen to others... Do not wait until additional victims begin the reporting the crimes.

Yeah this guy is sick and people are frustrating because they allowed him to attack them and didn't report it! How can the boyfriend have not kicked his butt and called the police when he woke up to his girlfriend being raped on the bed next to him??? Maybe they were all doing drugs and all stupid together, I don't know, but I'm glad he is being locked up, hope that the convictions stick!

Interesting that "bonhomme" means "good-natured" in French. Certainly doesn't describe this guy!

I'm sorry that these highly intoxicated women got rapred. Sounds like a crime of opportunity - he'll say they consented. I love that he took the first drunk back to her car - did she DRIVE it home? Risking the LIVES of everyone else on the road? Unbelievable ... in addition to counseling with regard to sexual assault, perhaps the victims could also be offered a ride to an AA meeting.

267: Why'd you put the word "victim" in quotes? If someone is raped, they are a VICTIM, no quotation marks. And no, the woman is NOT always the victim. The person who got RAPED is always the victim, whatever their gender. When you belittle these facts it just sounds creepy.

267: Yes, warning to all DBs that if you have sex with a chick who's passed out drunk you'll get a rape charge. SHOCKING. What a concept.

There is a higher incidence of males getting raped than women getting raped in this country. The penal system is now a double entendre.

Taboo story. Least of all we worry about this mans fate, but instead, we should care about preventing this type of situation in the first place. Being guilty does not prevent the issue. Solving a problem doesn't work by punishment. Accountability is where it starts. Young ladies should know NOT to get drunkin' smashed and end up in a foreign bed. Putting someone in jail does not take away the burden of feeling betrayed or assulted. Prevention now! And personally? These stories are riddled with holes that any good defense attorney can mutilate. In bed with your boyfriend and a bad guy? Then assult? Then you asked for a ride by bad guy? Boyfriend does what? What? "See ya man, thanks for the ride man!" Whatever....

@280 do you have facts/statistics to back up your statement that more men than women get raped? Or are you referring strictly to prison rapes rather than in the non-prison population? Perhaps rape of this perp in prison would be poetic justice.

COMMENT 296330 helpful negative off topic

Better yet, 328, we should focus on educating boys and young men on why rape is bad and why they shouldn't rape women (or anyone, for that matter) under any circumstance.

Educate young men - really -

right and wrong - simple - no more nanny state -

Parents teach your young - take responsibility - I raised 3 - if they stepped over my lines - they knew what was at home waiting for them -

Educate - how about personal responsibility ......

WOW

2012-07-11 12:55 PM

Another thing that struck me about this article is the so called 'mutual friends.' In most all the cases it was these mutual 'friends' that talked the victim out of reporting this guy.

This is a note to everyone. Don't protect abusers just because you have a 'friendship' with them or even just know them. When you do you become part of the abuse whether you realize it or not.

In a way they are all accessories to the crime and that is also true of abusive teachers, parents, relatives etc.

What is wrong with you? That's exactly what I am talking about. Personal responsibility. Educate your children on right vs. wrong. Teach young men that rape is wrong. How on Earth do you go from what I was saying to talking about nanny states?

Whatever. I shouldn't even respond.

@267 in-eloquently said what is taboo, but very true...women have to take responsibility for their own behavior and not allow themselves to completely lose control of their faculties in the presence of scum who would take advantage of their poor decisions. btw, keyt crew hanging out in front of the house, so there goes the neighborhood.

333,

How does any of this have to do with nanny states?

Would you also agree that the DARE program, which taught kids not to use drugs was an example of nanny stateism? Don't forget this was spearheaded by Nancy Reagan, the wife of the foremost republican anti nanny state president yet.

Kids will never know what is right from wrong if they are never EDUCATED.

COMMENT 296333 helpful negative off topic

2012-07-11 02:57 PM

Dare was a failure as we all know - all 3 of my kids got awards- where they learned the truth was at the dinner table each night talking with their parents - Mandatory dinner at the table 6 nights a week - I want parents to take responsibility (as we did ) for their off spring,,,,Just go to Ralphs in SB and shop for 20 minutes and U will find out where the next generation is going - Rude - obnoxious - and parents that are asleep -

nanny state is Cali - anytime a situation rears its head - Sacramento pass's 5 law's to blanket it .

Just say'n

The mutual friends pressured the victims not to report the rapes....I would like to know their names too. They aided in keeping a rapist amongst us. Is there any crime that they can be charged with?

COMMENT 296209 helpful negative off topic

2012-07-11 03:11 PM

Of course DARE was a failure, thats not the point.

If you want no nanny state, abolish all laws, all forms of government period and see what happens.

I believe people should be self reliant, but take no problem with teaching kids supplementary to what their parents teach them (who might be completely crazy btw) what is right and wrong in our society.

This is not an issue related to California, nor the United States alone. Stop using the word nanny state to push your partisan agenda on an issue that is not partisan to begin with.

As women we have to realize we are vulnerable to rape and violence especially when we are too drunk to make good decisions. There are guys who when they drink become monsters.... alcohol and drugs can change a persons personality and that guy that seemed pretty nice at the beginning of the evening can change when the booze and or drugs kick in.

Be smart, be careful and no matter what stay sober and alert when you are out there, don't give anyone an opportunity to violate you in any way.

We do have the responsibility to do all in our power to stay safe and that includes being cautious about how much we drink and who we go home with.

What is wrong with you people??? He is a serial rapist, a CRIMINAL. Stop blaming the victims!!!

If a man goes out and gets drunk, is it okay for someone to steal his wallet because he didn't bother to stay "sober and alert"? Is it okay if someone steals his car because he wasn't taking "responsibility" for his keys? If he passes out, is it okay for someone to physically assault him because he's not "in control of his faculties"? Of course not! Criminal behavior is a crime, regardless of the state of mind of the victim.

COMMENT 296495P helpful negative off topic

2012-07-11 05:13 PM

But in the example above, what if he gives away the money in his wallet? Or he gives away his car? The next morning he wakes up and decides the things he did while shit faced weren't so bright. Is it then theft?

COMMENT 296463 helpful negative off topic

2012-07-11 05:55 PM

Not one person on here has blamed the victim .....we all agree this guy is a monster, but the discussion now is how we as women can protect ourselves from ever being in a situation like this where we are vulnerable to rape or worse.

We have to realize the world is full of these guys and when guys are drunk/drugged they sometimes do terrible things(not excusing the behavior, just stating a fact.) Let's stay sober enough to make sure we get home safely with trusted friends or by taxi and not ever put ourselves in jeopardy.

Don't trust anyone you don't know well and don't accept a ride from a person who portrays himself as a Mr. nice guy who only wants to give you a ride home.

Rape is ghastly horrible. Often when I see or think about the crowds at bars, I wonder how many people are involved in date rape and never report it. Seems as if alcohol abuse, binge drinking and rape are serious problems not addressed well in our educational institutions and community.

COMMENT 296584P helpful negative off topic

@478 has it right. What this man did was wrong, no matter how drunk the women were.

Certainly better education (from home, school & community) for boys to treat girls with respect, and to teach all kids to not abuse alcohol or drugs couldn't hurt.

No excuse for Rape ever, however, this article does not mention what the cause was for these women who in each circumstance, passed out. They all "passed out".
Why did they pass out? From being drunk? Did the perp slip something in their drink - roofie them?
