UPTOUS: The amount of the fine varies from case to case. $10,000 would be more like a third offense DUI. First offense can be less than $1000 if there is no collision, your BAC is below 0.10%, and you have good legal representation. However if you hire a lawyer you will have to pay their fees, and you will still have to pay the DMV fees, plus the "tuition" cost for the mandatory DUI classes. Oh and I almost forgot, your auto insurance rates will be jacked up for at least three years.

Still not zero. These check points are going the way of the "Wars on drugs". 37 is still 37. There were probably way more D/drivers on the road but are getting smarter about alerting friends and other party goers to avoid the checkpoints. "There's an app for the that". Time for a $1.44 technology upgrade.

DUI Fine: $1900 SWAP (Sheriff's Work Alternative Program) to avoid jail: $417 Zona Seca (drinking driver program, 9 months): $1000 Lawyer: $2000 SR-22 (proof of insurance for 3 years): $1500 DMV fee to reinstate license: $150 Night at Santa Barbara County Jail: Priceless Not worth it, believe me!!
