Dear Joe: Nice attempt at making yourself relevant but you're dripping in Fail Sauce. The people have, by and large, sided with the bag ban. We care about our community and we don't like to see trash blowing about. We can make a difference and this is but one small step. Now, how about you take a positive step and resign your seat. Thank you.

Dear 295895: The bag ban is idiotic, unwanted by most, and needs to go. Kind of like Joe Armendariz.

Joe voted against the original bag ban because he knew the city would have to defend itself against a lawsuit. He was right again. The city wasted tax dollars and had to settle the suit.

@895. Bet you can't find 5 bags "blowing" around Carp in the whole of a week. First world bread and circuses.

The amount of trash I see scattered along the freeways while biking is pretty astounding. Driving a car you hardly notice it, but at slow speed it is very apparent. Much of the trash does consist of plastic bags. I wish people would make a conscious effort not to get bags, but its fairly obvious the plastic bag companies run the show (as dumb as that sounds). The American consumer will believe anything so long as they think it will make their busy lives more convenient.

If there are bags being littered all over, how about handing some of those "$2500 fine for littering" tickets. We are reducing drownings by banning swimming. We aren't focusing on the actual problem. People littering.

Well said, 295944. Plastic bags comprise 0.001% of plastic litter yet people have the misguided notion that banning them will actually do something. How many soda cans / bottles do you see littered about? None. Charge a nickel CRV per plastic bag and you will have every homeless person in California cleaning these things up. Problem solved.

What is truly the pinnacle of stupidity when it comes to this ban is that it bans paper bags too. Let's see....we supposedly have an environmental issue with PLASTIC bags, so let's ban the alternative paper bags, which we DON'T have an environmental problem with. Sounds like the reusable bag makers have a good lobby.

I live in Carpinteria and Joe was correct when he said the city would have to waste money defending itself by passing this nanny-state bag ban. He is also right when he said the majority would probably not vote for the bag ban if the voters were asked to vote. I know no one here who is in favor of the ban and they are all ticked off that we had to pay off to settle the suit. What a huge waste of money.

How do you enforce the littering tickets other than shutting down the rest area? Sorry the police can't be everywhere every minute, but I think when littering does take place they take it fairly seriously. The fundamental issue does not lie with bags, it lies with our disposable society. Where else do you start though? I could imagine the outcry is something like plastic bottles were banned, I bet there would be a riot. It really doesn't matter if its plastic bags or plastic bottles, though. People think its somehow less of a freedom when they have to exercise a bit of forethought. This is NOT to say I agree word for word with this particular ban.

How many hours have been wasted by the Carp council on this issue? Isnt there anything else that these fine upstanding politicians could be focusing their attention on? Geez, just make a decision and stick with it, it isnt rocket science. Either yes or no.....then move on and do something really useful.

I live in Carp and support the bag ban, that said, I'd rather the Council focus on the more important quality of life issues that affect us all...like dogs off leash pooping on the beach, homeless stealing then leaving grocery carts in town, idiots speeding down Linden and Carp Ave, neighbors playing loud music in the Condos and Apartments that disturb everyone else, people emptying their car ash trays in front of your house, kids vandalizing the locker rooms at the City pool and tearing up the tennis courts on skateboards, etc. Sometimes it is even these little things that take away from everyone. Some more code enforcement and LE hires would do wonders. It's nice to have these problems compared to world hunger and pandemics...LOL!

I am sure that the people Armanderiz speaks to agree with him and vice versa. The rest of the world has a more sane view of what is reasonable and healthy for our planet.

296103P - You crack me up. Every issue you list is LESS important than a ban on bags.
