Been having lots of rescues lately. Glad everything turned out fine. Good to know people are still getting out and about in the wilderness and we have professional help when needed.

A hiking partner separated from you by miles and hours is not a partner just another backpacker on the trail. What's the point of doing something with someone if you're essentially going it alone? I don't get that.

These rescues are paid by? The hiker? Maybe before going hiking, hikers should have to bring a Spot Epirb?

for 293998, read the article, they had a pre-arranged meeting spot, so neither were "essentially going it alone." Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue (SBCSAR) is a volunteer wilderness group of unpaid professionals, not supported by government funds.
