Good on ya. More people need to experience nature. May I suggest a follow up trip... Drive to Independence on the east side of the sierras. Hike up Sawmill Pass and Chill in the sixteen lakes basin for a couple days. The trail says its unmaintained but its in pretty good shape. Sawmill lake on your way up for the first night. Once you get up over the pass you will be in the 11,000 ft range so no bonfires or fires at all, so enjoy that first night. Big Rainbow and brown trout in sawmill lake. Really nice Golden trout in the sixteen lakes basin. Mt Winn, Mt Cedric Wright and Split mountain are all day hikes from the basin. Epic....

Great pics, love the area (is that Piedras Blancas?). Was it super hot? I've never considered going to the Sespe in the summer.

It makes me want to be there, so beautiful! Do you need a permit to camp and are there restrooms and places to have a campfire? How long did you camp and what did you pack in to eat?

293842:Yea it was quite hot our second day. 90-100 When do you usually go? 293852:There are no bathrooms. Tons of campfire spots. Its free too. We spent two nights in and brought hotdogs, chilli, pasta, and bread for the dinners. Sespes a great area.

Are there bears in the area - like ones coming into your campground? Are their storage lockers? I suppose it's too high up for snakes, but are there rattlesnakes in that area?

the Sespe is a wilderness area. no roads, no campgrounds, no toilets, no piped water. You must be prepared, with proper equipment, footgear and clothing; carry in your own food and water, plus pack out ALL your trash.. leave only footprints, take only photos. REI can help you with recommendations. Love the hammock for sleeping.

Unfortunately the non-native fish like those catfish are wrecking havoc on the native trout populations. You should let Fish and Game know asap which pond you found them in....
