Wow....now THERE is a crisp photo of a perp. Wonder why their system got such a good shot and banks' photos are so poor.

806: I assumed it was a bank photo. But I agree that this is the kind of photo that actually helps people ID thieves.

certainly someone locally recognizes her. it will be interesting though to see if anyone turns her in.

Anyone dumb enough to cash a check for someone else against their account without knowing the person deserves to lose their money. That's just downright stupid.

Please tell me it was for a small amount...< $100

65 I was wondering also how this could be possible. What's the ploy to convince the person to cash the check.

43 I am sure if someone recognizes her, she will be turned in, not too many people like crooks and thugs.

I have a feeling this crime was perpetrated against seniors who tend to be more trusting.

Finally!

For once somebody used some decent surveillance gear to get very usable pics of a criminal in action. Bravo!

Thanks to everyone on Edhat that kept complaining that bank surveillance cameras were inadequate. Someone finally listened to us and upgraded. Good job everyone.

865 ~ Now, I'm gonna have to go back and read the story again, because I thought it said she stole checks.

Oh ya... 865 is correct.... She talks people into cashing checks that are bad.... I didn't get enough sleep last nite !!!!

@293865

I believe that's the rationale and attitude that these criminals have toward their victims -- that they deserve it.

The scams all operate on taking advantage of the "victim's" greed. The checks may be stolen or fraudulently created as duplicates of legitimate checks drawn against legitimate bank accounts.

There is usually a plausible story about how they received the check in payment for something sold to someone else, and how they have some temporary issue that prevents them from putting the check through their own bank. So, the bait is that if you help them out by cashing a $1,500. check through your own account, you can keep perhaps $300. and just give the other party $1,200. and both sides are happy.

Happy, that is, until the bogus check bounces back to your bank account, and your bank lets you know that you have an overdraft of $1,200.00 in your account.

Well, she may not be from this area, since they said San Diego and southcoast, but it sure is a good photo and I'm hoping someone nabs her!
