989-The Santa Ynez Valley Journal reports on the crime that goes on at the Casino, and you're right. The SYV News pretty much ignores it. I have lived here for over 30 years and when the Casino opened crime arrived in a big way.

4001... what? Deny an Edhatter the right to rant on any off topic issue however thinly related to the original post? Sacrilege. Anyway that's what the Nannies get the big bucks to seek out an destroy.

293989,

"Also "coincidently" the Public Information Officer for the casino is married to the Public Information Officer at the Sheriffs' Department"

Explain to me again what this has to do with the incident that occurred the other day??

Just more ignorant garbage being thrown out as usual.

You can never predict what another human is going to do even if you know them well. All of the training that law enforcement goes through helps them prepare for most eventualities but it is understood that criminals are very unpredictable. You protect yourself and your fellow officers just as you would protect your family. When this man rammed the police vehicle he put himself into the trajectory and the officer did what he had to - the job as he has been trained to do it. If you step to someone with a gun, you take your chances.

I support the Officer and appreciate what was done to protect us- He should not feel badly about taking this creeep out. If I knew the cop, I buy him a Starbucks gift card!

I fill sorry for both of them, Iknew another officer from LA that never recovered from a shooting he was in. I hope this officer is strng enough to get past this and move on in life with out any problems. The other guy I fill bad for because he had what it takes to be a great goalie , man even under this kind of pressure he didn't let any shots get past him...

Right on, 721P.

That officer will "beat himself up" for ages over this regardless of Internal Investigation's final report.

I feel sorry for the officer who had to draw his gun and take a life. That is NEVER an easy thing to do. Prayers for him and his family.

You're right, 293694 and 293657, he wasn't thinking of his family members. But that doesn't mean we can't -- if we fail to, we're no better than he was.

COMMENT 293694 helpful negative off topic

He wasn't thinking about the well being of his family when he broke into a home and stole belongings, or when he ran from the police, or when he put citizens' lives in danger by driving the wrong way on the freeway.

He wasn't worried about his family's welfare when he rammed a patrol car with his vehicle.

This plea to "think of the family members" is a hollow one that has no place here.

Think of the innocent people this criminal could have harmed or killed if the scenario had played out differently.

He got the what he asked for in the end.

How about this was somebody's family member. So sad for all involved.

293653 - How about "Receiver of the Bullet".

Why are they being called the "victim"? Doesn't seem appropriate of a term for the criminal acts that they were committing yesterday that led to an officer shooting them in apparent self defense.
