As SBWCN "motto" says (TM-trademarked) ..."“We may not be able to save the world, but often we can save a small, beautiful piece of it.”

Another pelican was at Shoreline Park yesterday, not moving, on the other side of the fence. A young lady showed up with a net and picked up the bird, who did not struggle at all. My husband held the bird for her while she came back over the fence, then she took the bird to her car. Not sure who she was or where she took the bird. She said it was a young one, starving.

Kudos to all who helped. I'm always so happy to read good news amidst all the trouble and trauma going on. Amazing 3rd photo. I had no idea one could do that.

Must have been Cheryl of SBWCN.She spends so much of her time knee deep in the water, saving many sea birds in need. Good job Cheryl!

This is great! We passed the obviously very concerned CHP officer yesterday as he was standing over the bird, shielding it from traffic with his car. It's heartening to hear that the bird is doing well, thanks to all involved.

Animal Listner: Cheryl does a great job, but she was not involved with this pelican rescue. And 293416, yes, it was heart-warming and amazing caring by the CHP officer. I don't know how long the bird had been down, on its back, but it was at least 10 minutes, perhaps longer from when June spoke with him, then with me and then for me to get there from the lower east side. His concern was very touching and I wished I could say I thought the bird would be okay, but with it so long on its back, I thought it very questionable. It was great to hear that it was eating and apparently going to be okay! — Betsy
