The bugs read the rolling stones article and are not taking refuge on the beach.

I spent many years around the Warf, first there is the sewage pipe that runs along the west side of it (its the big fat one),then there is the things that go on under, and around the Warf (I"ll let your imagination run that one), then there are people that leave all sorts of stuff behind when they use the space, including me when I was less responsible, and lastly let us not rule out what may be buried under the sand, remember SB has a large "roof impaired" population.............

Yes.... our little slice of heaven comes at a price.... homelessness, smart meters, smelly ponds, big ships, plagues of bugs, crosswalk stings, Daryl Gennis, off leash dog attacks, June gloom, too much sun, the Miramar, the Blue Line, helicopters, ditzy hikers,.... to be continued.

293212 = love your 'price list.' Excellent. We could also tip the scales and start new (positive) traditions, to offset. We could gather and collect the curbside couches in Isla Vista, line them up in Perfect Park, and watch a bicycle movie, with a frisbee exhibition to close. Oh, and bring your dog(s). (No Solstice drums, though.)

I thought they might be sand flies but I like 312's explanation better.

@246- First off folks, bugs feed the birds and reptiles and other critters. OK NEXT, give me an ever-loving BREAK!! We DO live in paradise. The price to pay? How about a list like this; more beauty than just about any other city in the US. How about a gorgeous view of the mountains and ocean? Beautiful buildings everywhere you look? Lovely old homes that are kept in pristine condition, miles and miles of hiking trails that are just minutes away from downtown, great restaurants, great museums, gorgeous beaches, campgrounds, and parks. Great programs for kids and parents, pet adoption agencies and dancing. Parking that costs close to nothing when you compare to other cities. Great music venues like the Granada, the Arlington, The Bowl, Earl Warren...I just marvel at how people can find the negative, even here. Wake up and smell the best coffee in the world!!! Geez!

Rose colored glasses are helpful at times with our whole world and local U.S. political situation.
