Are they illegal in the City of Goleta or the unincorporated areas? If so, what about Carp or Ventura?

Ironic considering what the fireworks commemorate...

No, it's not ironic at all, considering we live in an area prone to brush fires and it is fire season. It's a matter of common sense and safety.

Too bad fireworks are ever used at all here. This bi-annual "display" (Parade of Lights uses fireworks, too) scares the bejesus out of shore birds. My dogs HATE the resounding booms and thunderous explosions.

The detritus goes into the ocean, cars pollute with all of the bumper-to-bumper traffic. The city may benefit from the tourism, but then there's the tremendous beach clean-up costs.

One of the best, most beautiful and special dogs I have ever known was killed, when the fireworks caused her to leap an 8-foot fence and try to find refuge from the noise. She was found dead on Hwy 101 the next morning. So much for celebration.

One can argue we all should have the freedom to use fireworks to celebrate the 4th. However, I should also have the freedom NOT to hear fireworks while I'm trying to read. And since I don't have the freedom to take a baseball bat to the side of the head of the joker setting off fireworks, he should lose his freedom to make annoying racket, blow off his fingers and start fires.

oh for crying out loud, it happens once a year. for 15 minutes! keep your pets inside and wear earplugs if it bothers you so much! sheesh. and serious question: why do they sell fireworks at ralphs if they are illegal? i'm confused ...
