If I spent every hour of every day hanging out in a port-a-potty I'd get the impression that the whole world was a big cesspool. Luckily I don't, and I can see that while some cesspools exist, the rest is beautiful. Kinda like Roger listening to the scanner all day long. Roger provides a good service but his point of view is certainly skewed.

Be nice to Roger! If you don't like the scanner reports then don't read them, it's simple :)

If you don't agree with Roger go visit our beautiful downtown library and sit inside and read for awhile or maybe out on the beautiful lawn or take a walk from the Arlington to the beach, even more eye opening walk along east beach and take your children to play on the grassy area like many used to do not that long ago. Enjoy the graffiti along the way! When your out of town guests who haven't visited for several years comment on the decline and stench of urine at the State St underpass tell them it's all in their minds.

Thanks 292647P for the link to the mid-to-far-left-wing's business viewpoint. Not that I necessarily disagree with the article, but do you have a link to an equally right-wing business magazine so we can compare and contrast? I'm sure they would disagree and that their graphs would look a lot different.

@565 That portapottie being the Turd Refuge near where I live obviously isn't in your nimby neighborhood. What do you care that people all over town are physically sick from it.

Denial is right. If you can't see it, it must be clean! And don't scare the tourists. We've put all our eggs in one basket so we'd better pretend we really do live in Disney-Santa Barbara Adventure or else!

Remember that rapist about 20 or so years back that raped the asian tourist so bad she lost an eye. His last victim testified aganist him then drank herself to death she was a nurse. Dizzyland is more like it.

So---what's your point? Too many people? Not enough enforcement? Tourists beware? I laugh and laugh at the silly "Bird Refuge" rantings. Oh, please. This problem happens nearly every year. It's not catastrophic. Let's keep things in perspective. And tell your friends to stop tossing bread to the ducks. Crime is not new to SB. There is more of everything now, that's the deal. More buildings, more tourists, more illegals, more transients, more, more, more. Don't like the graffiti? Call "Looking Good Santa Barbara" and get a free kit and start cleaning up. A satisfying hobby. Good therapy. If everyone walked more, rode bikes, and used the bus, that would REALLY help keep SB nice. More exercise and less complaining.

Roger, the "living in a port-a-potty" reference had nothing to do with the bird refuge...it was a metaphor for your listening to nothing but bad things happening on a scanner 24/7. If all I did was sit in my house and listen to a police scanner I'd think the world was going to hell also. And speaking of the bird refuge, I lived across the street from Tri-County Produce for 5 years and every year we had that smell. Some years were worse than others. This is a bad year.

@565 Will I guess you think you know me I don't sit in my house 24/7 and listen to the scanner. I guess the Turd Refuge is bad if animals are dying in and around it. So do you live across from Tri County produce in the parking lot there?2682 What area do you live in? I'm curious and the industrry you work in or own? I don't toss bread to the Ducks. Please don't assume you know me just because you think your better than me.

And speaking of the world going to hell @565 It did for one woman here 7 months ago when she was burned to death over on Quarantina street..The investigation lasted a few days before it was determined that she was not murdered. But why was she found hours after the fire under a pile of debis. (That was actually on KEYTs website the next morning) Though it was gone shortly thereafter as far as the world going to Hell it may. But why critize for my opinion? What did I do to you? Some people are mean't to do what they do

I *know* I'm not better than *anybody*. I also know that taking a break from the news *does* affect my perspective in a positive way. And I wholly support Roger & appreciate his work. I get the point others are trying to make; I've seen it in my own life. Deep breaths, y'all...
