If by "temporarily" they mean "permanently", then I think that's accurate. News Press not far behind.

Santa Barbara and Goleta can support only so many UCSB mafia satellite media outlets. I can easily imagine a future where UCSB mafia's propaganda interests are satisfied by the weekly Independent, online Noozhawk and Daily Nexus with the support of the news aggregator Edhat. If all existing local media continue to regularly violate the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists (google it) in service to criminal UCSB, there might be room for a new media outlet with journalistic integrity although it's questionable how long it would survive in a community with only a presumption of virtue.

247, why go out of their way to state it would be up and running again next week? This isn't a paper reading issue, it's a labor dispute issue. If you look around town, a good 80-90% of these papers at most locations are gone before they get replaced with the next issue. People DO read them. Moreso than larger or national papers, that's a different case. Local, concise papers like these two generally do really well in print. I respectfully think you don't actually know what you're talking about.

More evidence of the death of blatant progressive media bias in this community. Couldn't happen to a better newspaper.

Why should we encourage a paper to fold and put more people out of work? This town can't retain good journalists, which is why all of the outlets are depressingly mediocre. Edhat picked up four Daily Sound stories yesterday. That shows the impact of this small, independent business in this community.

Hopefully, the "contract dispute" involves forcing the writers to learn the rudiments of English. My guess is that the DS is likely on the way out, except maybe for a lingering online presence. The N-P has its own sort of cash cow that will keep it afloat as long as that remains part of the operation.

Good luck, DailySound. I prefer the hard copy but have a hard time finding it --- it's usually gone at Tri-County Produce where I get it. We need daily papers. Even as a Democrat, I don't like the Das-adoration, it really is so biased!, but the writing is good and competition for news is important, even essential to being knowledgeable about what's going on.

Two of the quotes on here sound like that crazy anti UCSB guy that got arrested. Way too emotional in a weird direction for this early in the morning...

The Daily Sound is duking it out with Montecito Bank and Trust over their credit line that suddenly got yanked. Without the credit line it can be hard to pay your printers and other creditors depending on what the revenue stream is at the DS. The only complaint I have about the DS and other local newspapers is that they seem to be too dependent on press releases for news and don't have the resources to do some investigative reporting and independent analysis. KEYT is the same.

To bad for the Sound they tried but in a competitive and hard environment it may have been to much for them. It seems the publication may be close to the end and if that is the case hopefully the staff transition quickly to new endeavors.

DS also found out there was no daily appetite for liberal biased news beyond the weekly Independent steady diet.

How about Michael Towbes, owner of the Montecito Bank and Trust (and probably 1,000 apartments hither and yon), giving them a break or even subsidizing the alternative daily, if 343 is correct?

@Flylight- have you considered pumping your own money in to save the Sound? Michael Towbes has no more obligation to do that than you do.

they didn't pay their bills to the printer and the "dispute" is over that. they'll most likely declare bankruptcy, reorganize, find a new printer and will be back.
