Thanks, David. I didn't get to the parade this year - it's gotten a bit too large, too crowded for my tastes, remembering the early Solstices. Thanks for the reminders. Maybe next year, I tell myself. Today, I had to drive to Ventura in the morning and was struck by the huge amount of northbound traffic, stop and go from La Conchita almost to Carpinteria.

I have always heard the parade started on Milpas Street for his birthday but maybe I'm wrong

Very nice closeups of parade participants and an interesting historical insight. Thank you.

looks like folks had a really good time making their costumes, judging from all the radiant smiles!

Michael was one of those kind souls who made everyone feel better about themselves and life itself. I happened to be standing on State St. that day in 1974 when he parades with a few friends down State. It was an instant smile on your face type of event and we all began cheering and laughing. It seems God takes the benign.

I knew Michael -- a magician in a way plus just being a great human being. His parade used to be along Cabrillo Blvd -- I did a painting of him plus parade there once.

Beautiful photos, David, thanks. It was a State St Parade except for maybe a couple years when it was on Cabrillo, starting down by where the arch is now. Maybe that's the confusion of someone thinking Michael's parade started at Milpas.
