Check out Haruki Murakami's _What I Talk About When I Talk About Running_ and some of his fiction, especially the later stuff, as well.

You're an inspiration, just keep doing what you're doing but don't stop writing! I could not talk myself into "running" even with an electronic partner, and I'm not even Irish! I walk enough and work out in the garden enough, justification for not spending too much time on the computer, the biggest love/hate conversational relationship I have with technology.

When I run, I either count steps or breaths, or repeat a meditation mantra. Keeps my brain out of trouble and keeps me from running into things. When we're running, I think that's basically all we should be thinking about. In the moment is where it's at.

I used to run marathons but am no longer a fan of what running does to an over 40 year old body so if it doesn't feel natural or enjoyable to you, try brisk walking or biking. I'm much more likely to go longer while listening to a workout playlist on my iPod in a lovely locale like Hendry's beach at low tide or the Riviera. Make it enjoyable so it's not a matter of IF you're going out today, but something you look forward to every day.

You are cute and adorable! Keep it up, that is, until it starts to hurt. Then find something else to do to stay fit. I finally had to quit after 25 glorious years of running. At age 50 I now just bike and walk briskly. But I think I had every thought you detailed during my running career. I can't tell you how many times I actually raised by arms in the air in the Rocky victory dance after achieving some heartbreaking hilltop! Also, while I felt that a running mom would be inspiring and a good role model, my kids always cringed when I had to pick them up from school still a little sweaty and in my running clothes...my daughter once actually said to me, all slunk down in her seat, "Mom, you just look so 'run down' all the time." !!!

I don't run. I do BeachBody. All the different programs are friendly to your body. I'm 55 and in better shape then when I did all those high impact programs. Check it out. There is a program for every body. You'll build muscle, lower your blood pressure and have a good time doing it. You won't think about anything, just the good time your having. Staying healthy should be fun.

I have also done couch to 5k and I promise it will get better. The first few weeks are unbearable for someone (me for sure) who wasn't previously in shape and didn't run their whole lives. Stick with it and be week 5 or 6 you will be so amazed at the improvement. As for what to think about when running, I use the time for internal (and okay sometimes vocal venting). Good luck!

You are amazing and what a great sense of humor. Yes, you deserve "good" running shoes. I power walk every single day, when I am in SB it's a beach walk from east beach bath house to Lazy Acres and back and when I am in Maui I walk a beautiful route with hills and coastal views. The beauty of walking, you can do it anywhere you are. Most chiropractors and orthopedic surgeons will advise power walking over running. If you are in SB the City College track is cushioned and much easier on joints if you really want to run. Keep it up it will all pay off for you, good health, happy endorphins and a slim, trim body!

You're a wonderful writer! Keep up the writing and keep up the running. I have a bad habit of talking myself out of going to the gym, or biking, or running. I recently injured myself and now I really wish I hadn't let myself make excuses!
