Why the hell don't they focus on addressing the homeless problem instead?? Is this really needed?

I am not wild about the homeless but being hit by a car is much more important issue for me.

58 citations at around $300 per would be $17,400. Thats a heck of a lot of one way bus tickets. a couple more stings like this and we will have solved our decades long homeless problem!

Awesome! And since a pedestrian also got a ticket, all of the complainers can shut up for a change.

I wish they'd done that at my elementary school when I was a kid. I still have an incredibly strong memory of crossing the street to go to Brandon School when I was a little. And I learned something about people that day. My parents were Republicans and I believed (at that time - early 70s) that men in business suits were respectable and hippies were not. So, one morning I was headed to school and a car was coming. I stopped to wait for the car as was usual, but it actually stopped and waited for me to cross. That was unusual, but I began to cross. Then a second car that came up behind the first decided it didn't want to stop and zoomed around the first car. Can you guess? The car that stopped for me was driven by someone with long hair, that I would classify as a hippie at the time. The car that zoomed around and nearly hit me? You guessed it - driven by a man in a business suit. I was crossing from east to west. The cars were traveling south, so they were in the far lane. Both drivers had a perfectly clear view of me (though I was a kid - maybe 2nd grade or so - so I wasn't exactly tall). I definitely learned something about judging people by their looks that day....

I remember during the 1980's some Counties up North had a General Relief program that paid the exact amount of a Bus Ticket to the County border. One program paid $6.41 per year.

I'm sure you noticed that they seem to targeted cross walks where people have been hit.

@CALENGR That's exactly what I would expect based on the ethics of those groups.

@CALENGR. And by now, that hippie could be a sucessful businessman and the businessman could now be a hippie.

For anyone who gets as frustrated as I do with some of these Type A jerks who think their time is so much more valuable than yours and mine, there is a classic video on youtube, entitled "Don't honk at the old lady". A woman, well into her 80's steps off a curb, causing a jerk speeding in his Mercedes roadster, to angrily stop at a clearly marked crosswalk. The woman, intimidated by the demeanor of the driver, hesitates to walk in front of his car, causing him to start honking his horn, further flustering someone old enough to be his grandmother. She slams her valise-like handbag into the front of his sleek, powerful, prestigious German machine, which causes the driver's airbag to deploy, this driver's utlimate reward for behaving so rudely to someone who happened to have the legal right of way. I have seen many similar instances of rude driver behavior in SB going all the way back to the 1960's. These snobby jerks need to get over themselves.

As a downtown resident who walks every day for transportation, I am very happy that the police are enforcing this crosswalk law. I have had so many frightening, close calls in crosswalks on two-lane, one-way streets, in particular, such as Chapala and De La Vina Streets. The car in the near lane stops, I start crossing in a legal crosswalk and frequently a vehicle will barrel through in the other lane causing me to stop short in the crosswalk. I even had one car honk at me as if he had the right-of-way! Walking in Santa Barbara should be a pleasure rather than a dangerous activity.
