What an offensive remark! I thought it showed that they wanted fresh eyes in management which is a good idea.

You are judging a person with the name John Smith because of his nickname "Pancho". How did he get that name? It may be for any reason, which I am sure you do not know. And as a legal US citizen it should not make any difference. Do you know of anyone who has the following experience - "seasonal fire employee in wilderness patrol and fire prevention, an engine crewmember, engine foreman, and fire crew foreman, game range manager, law enforcement officer." I think experience in fire and law is very suitable for this area, especially if there is wilderness ranger experience. Welcome to the new ranger, and hope your experience will be a plus to the job.

He was already employed, thus it cannot be about "quotas". It has to be about the best person for the job.

First of all the position is for a "National" forest. This means that the US Forest Service can select from a pool of employees throughout the country. The new Ranger is American and that should be acceptable to all of us including the rude commenter here who seems to have a problem with the name Pancho. I've lived in Santa Barbara since 1974 and I rarely, over the years have encountered rude, racial attitudes here and I for one like it that way. So if you can't handle working and living with people of other nationalities, colors and races, then there are many other wonderful places where you can live with people just like you—angry people full of hatred and grand illusions of superiority. Don't let the door hit you in the a#s on your way out.

"Forest Supervisor" and "District Ranger" -- who's responsible for what? I thought there used to just be a "head ranger" for each forest. I'm confused, and would appreciate an explanation of the current management structure and titles please. Thanks.

Forest supervisor runs the entire forest while the district ranger is supposed to run the district. The Los Padres has 5 different districts.
