If you have ever shopped at Whole Foods you know these signs mean nothing in reality. You'll see non-low emission vehicles (my SUV included) parked in the low emission spots all the time. Waste of time and money to even put them up to begin with as they are not enforceable. Handicap spots however are a different story.

What's the fine for parking there? You have to babysit a small child for an evening?

This is pretty standard for every store. I've never seen enforcement on these or the hybrid parking spaces at the store in my hometown.

There is no fine because there is no law against it. At worst you might get a few nasty glares or a snippy comment if you park on it without a kid.

I guess I won't be shopping there if I'm to be treated as a second class customer. Children are a choice not a handicap, though some may disagree. Maybe I should buy a stroller and place a doll in it to qualify for the preferred parking spots. Sorry, VANILLA, more strollers for you to contend with.

It's a very family-friendly thing to do; I was so excited to see the parking spots, its difficult to handle groceries at times and a child and I have used the spaces several times all ready being a mother of twins! As for kids running amuck in there the answer is yes! they do and it surprises me that people dont teach their children the difference between a playground and a grocery store! I was shocked to see kids riding tricycles and scooters in the store; guess I know what I won't be letting my kids do!

190: Not to worry; it doesn't say how old the children have to be. There are people with very adult children, in age, that is. There are people in their 70's and more who refer to their 50-year-old offspring as their "children". You may bring both your son and your daughter; just don't let them see the picture on the sign.

The only constraint appears to be that one of the adults has to wear a smock. And/or maybe have very short legs. Really, would people really shop/not shop based on an attempt to be family friendly? Does everyone know that other stores provide shopping carts that look like race cars for the kids? If I was worried about everyone being treated the same I wouldn't shop there either.

We are missing the whole point here, these spaces are for the safety and convenience of young children who need to be taken out of the grocery cart and put in their car seats. Have you ever seen these moms parking the cart behind the car because there is no room between cars and trying to unload the child and put them in the car seat while the cart rolls across the lot loaded with groceries. Have a heart, you all *were* these kids once. Also the figures look unisex to me.....one with a long shirt and one with a short shirt.....round heads, no hair. I guess we see what we want to see:-)

How about "Children with Children"? If you look around this particular grocery store, you'll see the bike parking, the nice parking for handicap and EV vehicles. I think this is a nice touch. Good for you Fresh and Easy.

I used to have a righteous attitude: "how dare those people with children... [walk with a stroller in a store, bring them to a restaurant, etc]," and then I had a child -- late in life -- myself. It changed my perspective entirely. NOW I understand how difficult it is to do it. Grocery shopping and everyday errands are very different with a small child in tow. More fun in some ways, but so different. Give 'em a break, people.

cool idea,i always see parents struggling with a cart full of grocerys and couple kids definitely makes it easier on them if they can park closer, however if they actually ticket people for taking that spot if they do not have kids thats not okay.

@187, and others defending this setting up different classes of shoppers. This is ridiculous and obnoxious. Especially so when so many of these store parking lots are crammed full of cars and one sometimes has to cruise around 2 or 3 times to find a space 150 feet removed from the store. I refuse to support such crap, and will not patronize stores where this is done.

What the heck did our parents do before this, when there were no strollers (nowdays, actually more like giant bumper cars with sunshades, outriggers for gear, hell you could probably pack a cooler and tent in one of those). They carried us or we walked beside them if we were big enough to keep up. We are still alive and in one piece. Parking spaces were 10" wider then, but that's about the only difference.

I'm all for these signs and spots. I almost hit a 2 or 3 year old child in a parking lot. She was too short for me to see when I looked in the rear view mirrors and she was walking right behind my car. Her idiot father was not holding her hand or carrying her.....it should have been the latter.
