Could be someone is heartbroken over this little guy getting out. I would put found ad on Craigslist, if you have him in your possession. News-Press also runs FREE found AND lost ads now, for five days. A great public service. But be aware these finches have now started to have little pocket populations in SB. Unless this is a bird in the hand---just watch and enjoy.

When I was a kid, my budgie got out. My grandpa hung the cage from a corner of the patio roof, hoping she would come back. She never did. The cage was still there when I inherited the house decades later. Still there now, come to think of it. I really should get busy on that patio. I guess that was a happier story than the time my hamster got out and grandma set traps. He was so cute in the cage but just another plague-carrying rodent in the wild.

@289213, when I was a teenager in the San Fernando Valley (a VERY long time ago), my mother was watering in the backyard and a budgie landed on her shoulder. We had no idea how to locate the owner, so we kept him. He was a great bird and very loved. Hopefully your budgie was lucky enough to find a family that cared about her.

221, Thanks for the Budgie tale; heartens me to think ours that flew away, in Montecito 60 yrs ago, may have gotten a home. They don't last long in the wild.

Ten years ago I came upon a little male Zebra Finch in Santa Fe Springs who was so tired that he was leaning against a post and easily rescued with a cap. On the way home I picked up some finch food and a book which said they are social birds and need company. So a couple days later I bought a girlfriend for him. Well, little did I know they are the rabbits of the bird world and prolifically produced over 100 offspring over the years (many of which I had to sell back to the petshops which broke my heart). I built them an aviary in my back yard and had to separate the boys and girls or else I would be overrun. I'm glad to know there are wild populations of them in SB.

Ok, saw this yesterday with only the one fuzzy picture. SO GLAD I CAME BACK! These photos were wonderful. I hope the little guy found his way home.
