The cormorant diet of fish results in droppings that burn the leaves of the trees in which they build their nests. Note that there are very few on the one in the picture. Ultimately the tree will die if they continue to nest in it. (There are several eucalyptus trees on the edge of the southern part of Morro Bay which died as a result of cormorants nesting in them.)
