Images of food almost always make it look less appetizing then it really is. Why is that?

426P: Because these people aren't food photographers. (I don't mean this negatively - food photogs are amazing at what they do. It's very difficult to make food look appetizing in photos unless you really REALLY know what you're doing (or it's fruit - fruit always looks good...).) And who posted a pic of a kid for lunch? Given the numerous zombies making headlines in the last week, it's not exactly good timing there, buddy.

Who was snarky, besides the "you're all drunk" commenter maybe? I too was confused by the child picture. Thought folks were sending in pics of what they are/were EATING for lunch.

I think the kid photo was showing what the child was having for lunch. I've heard that food pictures for magazines have the food sprayed with varnish, or some such glossy substance, and sometimes the "food" isn't even real. Some of these meals definately look good enough to make me want to eat them. Good idea, Ed, for flash photos.

Where is that delicious-looking plate of corned beef, cabbage and mashed potatoes from?! If it's a restaurant, I really want to know which one! (I absolutely thought the child was having fruit and some kind of juice; the negative connotation never crossed my mind.)
And yes, food photography, even fun/amateur, is a specialty.
