Rick Caruso is the latest victim of NIMBY-ism. He has paid for this mess in full with interest and continues to pay. Anybody who does anything resembling progress will be obstructed. Its that simple. The three property owners, also known as obstructionists, who live on the "other side" of the train tracks do NOT want progress and will impede it indefinitely. They should be condemned. Ty Warner should be commended for trying as hard as he did beforeMr. Caruso bought it from him.. Mr. Warner had a live on groundskeeper that would keep an eye out and restore order and cares about our community. The County just turned Mr. Caruso down for a property worth re-assessment, making him pay property taxes for $5 million, which he's paid in fill, instead of what its currently worth, $2 million. How would you like to pay $500,000.00 a year and more just to have it sit and decay? This is an injustice, and should be corrected.

We moved here in 1976 and driving here from the LA airport, I remember seeing this beautiful building with the magnificent blue tiles. Coming here from the east coast, it was something we had never seen before. So sad to see it now.

This is very sad. The Miramar was such a classy place for decades! Brought back many childhood memories...

I stayed here back in 74 with my daughter; it was funky but nice then. It's a real shame to see it so deteriorated. Are they waiting for it to fall down? :-(

@571P ~ I assume Caruso is the property owner? I find it difficult to believe that the city of S.B. allows this eyesight to remain there. @659 ~ Great idea for a park...but the residents "may" complain about the raise in their taxes??? Still, I think that it should be razed if for no other reason, safety issues.

A tribute to excessive government regulation and NIMBYism.

so sad..I worked there in the early 90's...fun group of people. Mrs. O was a tad grouchy. Never forget the day we all packed into the bar to watch the OJ Simpson slow-speed chase..those were the days.

Make it a public-purchased park like Wilcox. Done and done.

I walk on the beach in front of the Miramar almost every weekend. It is a mess. So sad. Why don't they just tear it down and put it out of its misery! There is no way they will be able to salvage the buildings at this point anyway.

umm, tell me again why Rick Caruso is seemingly incapable and unwilling to clean up the mess??
