Well I was writing this up the server was off..Police got there no one was there not even the white SUV I was going to mention. So either someone called in a phoney or the person was unable to climb over gave up and went home. So did anyone in Scanner land actually witness this?

I saw the guy hop over the barricade where it is low at the southern end; called 911. I told the 911 dispatch that I had no idea how much of a drop off there was there but that I was worried he could climb along the outside of it. So glad to hear that it was nothing.

Roger was the car they were watching near the RR at Milpas also a big recent model white SUV? That's what was stopped at the southern edge of the bridge with its door open.

So let's get this straight. Caltrans spent $4 million on a "suicide barrier" that a guy was just able to "hop over?" And then when he got bored with that, he drove to the train tracks on Milpas and attempted suicide there? Didn't the "experts" on suicide prevention tell us that wouldn't happen?

No the feller down here near the tracks is a seprate person. There are many suicidal people around town.

From now on, if somebody jumps over the barrier, after all the ruckus and $4 million wasted, the anti-suicide bleeding hearts MUST ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY for the death because their stupid actions brought it about. The blood will be on their hands.

I don't agree with the barrier either, but I just had to comment on 298p. HOW exactly is it the anti-barrier's fault if someone jumps off the bridge??? You make no sense.

Roger, here is an easy trick. Replace whom with he or him. whichever makes sense tells you to add m or not. Like he is king vs him is king. Fun times with the english language. Love you Roger!

@323 The notoriety of the bridge was greatly elevated by the years of planning, talking, spending and finally building the barrier resulting in a surge of suicides right in that period. The classic governmental unintended consequences.

Agreed. Calling it a suicide barrier instead of a safety barrier was perfect siren-song marketing to folks up for one last challenge.

4298P.... Being against suicide does not cause people to want to seek it out. No more than being against drugs is going to turn others into addicts.... a small thing called "personal choice" is at play here. However the war on suicide does have parallels with the war on drugs.

298P: Pure nonsense to think that creating the barrier created the problem. Read the news now & then, and then YOU can decide if you want to be the one driving UNDER the bridge when someone comes crashing down onto your windshield. People have been jumping off the bridge since they built it, and it breaks my heart every time I hear of one more. The barrier is NOT all that unbearable to look at; I agree that someone who wants to kill themselves will do so by some means, however doing so on that bridge creates a dangerous situation for OTHERS in the process, both up top and down below. I might add, it makes me feel comforted to know that one of the tailgaters on that road can't bump me over the side of the bridge in their zeal to get to their destination a couple of minutes sooner.

Hi Roger. I helped a very sad woman yesterday to find her wallet. I told her maybe it is in the cart. She said she had not thought of that. What do you know, it was right there in the parking lot, still on top of the cart after twenty minutes. Woohoo! I believe I am in the minority of people who truly care about all human beings. And, no I am not perfect, not by a long shot.
