She probley yelled "Get outta my way!!!" As she rolled over the top of the pedrestrian, hearing the bones crumble under her tires..I'm getting really tired of people not pulling over after running over someone or hitting them.

Agreed - and I wish the police would follow-up with reports on finding the offending vehicles/drivers; perhaps they do and I've missed them or perhaps they don't always find them.

They find alot of them when they get their plates but the jails are full..The criminals are taking advantage of it..I'd say it's time of alittle wood chipper therapy.

How many cars vs. Pedestrians have there been in the past couple of days? At least 5 or 6 that i've noticed on Edhat. How many more serious injuries or deaths will it take before this town does something to make it safer for pedestrians?

I was knocked down by a skateboarder on State Street last week. I literally was knocked off my feet, falling onto my butt and back.

The skateboarder stopped for a moment but when observers including a big burly man asked me if they wanted me to restrain the skate boarder so I could report the incident to the police, the coward took off.

Follow the law. Stop for pedestrians in cross walks. No bikes on the sidewalk in SB and NO SKATE BOARDS on DOWNTOWN SIDEWALKS PER THE LAW!!

Enoug of us are disgusted with this lawlessness disrespectful of others behavior. We will turn you into SBPD and sign the complaints to bust you.

I hate the Santa Barbara police, but they have been stinging people who don't stop for peds. Yeah, they are not all bad, too bad some of them turn folks off.

The number of pedestrians hit recently is bizarre. The increase in the rate of pedestrian/vehicle accidents seems even higher than the increase in the general level of insanity in SB. I sure hope there aren't drivers out there who are hitting people because they're busy looking for cops doing a pedestrian crossing sting or avoiding bulbouts.

My guess is that the license plate is actually 6JUK876 and not 1JUK, as "6JUK" is not only a Santa Barbara-issued prefix, but any plate bearing a "1" prefix would now be 22 years old.

I think a lot of people still text and drive, and a person in a crosswalk is hard to see out of the corner of your eye when you have your eyes staring into your lap. I know the cops are also doing texting and "non-hands free" cell use stings too. I know someone who recently got burned in the sting and it was a bogus situation because she was honestly just holding the phone in her hand and the cop saw it during a sting. He told her that under normal circumstances he would have cut her a break, but since they were conducting a sting there was a zero tolerance. Happy the law is enforcing cell phone users while driving, but sad for my friend. The ticket was $170 or something like that and she hasn't ever had a moving violation (and she's 40).

Stace, I hope your friend challenged the ticket. I don't think the law bans holding a cellphone, just using one. ...And if one challenges wrongly-issued tickets they do get removed.

Sure....I was only "holding" the cell phone officer.

Why did she need to be holding a cell phone in a way that was visible to an officer if she was driving and not using it at the time?

I wonder if police can subpoena phone records when someone contests a txting ticket. If so, might be easy to prove active use at the exact time. We have friends who talk/text while driving, and my fear is hearing an accident over the phone when they call us.

@665P You can guess whatever you like. I report what I hear.

STACE.... "just holding her phone in her hand"? OMG, are you serious? That's a defense against using a cell while driving? What was her cell doing in her hand if she wasn't using it - checking emails?

Forgive me but this kind of rationalization of friends' and families' misbehaviour is how people get hurt with impunity.

To the person that was hit by a skateboarder on State Street - did you report it to the police? Although the guy is long gone, I hope you did report it. The more reports on file, the better.
