I will take sharks over stingrays any day. Bumped into both and the sharks are much nicer. Be careful this time of year, the stingrays come in to spawn and can be so thick they are hard to avoid. When wading out always use the "stingray shuffle".

That is awesome! But that picture is of a Sand Tiger Shark, not the same species of shark you saw today. Very cool though! I would love to see a leapord shark in the water,

Locally the term sand shark refers to either the gray or brown smoothhound shark ... and sometimes the shovel nose guitarfish and thornback rays. All four species can be found in the surf line when feeding on baitfish or sand crabs.

As a surfer and avid beachgoer, I can tell you they are not unusual and pretty uninterested in us.

As 986 said, that's a Sand Tiger shark in the picture, and those sharks aren't found in the Pacific. The type of sand shark that's around this area, looks more like a ray, than a shark. If you did in fact see a shark like species, it was probably a leopard shark.

These leopard sharks are seen regularly at devereux when I paddleboard. They do not show any interest in me or the board. However, their was a 7ft thresher shark washed up on shore at the start of fall.

Young leopard sharks can be seen in the estuary at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh. Saw one lunge at a crab on the shoreline. Very cool.

Or a swell shark. They look like leopard sharks.
