I wonder how many tons of poop they're going to dump into the channel while they're here. I hate those things.

946 - Probably less than a 1/10 of what we do everyday.

It's only boy poop... since we all know that girls don't do things like that.

949 - yes they really do dump their poop in the channel ... it just can't be within three miles of shore. How gross is that? Those things are like floating cities and people eat ALOT when they're on a cruise ... you know what that means.

I thought it was five miles, which is equal distance to the four oil platforms closest to SB. But 946 is right. It's three miles. . . For some reason I just thought of the guppies I had when I was a kid. You know how their poop would come out like a string?

Those ships look absolutely beautiful in our harbor, especially at night with their sparkling lights. Yes, bring on the tourists and turn them lose to shop, eat at our restaurants and use our companies that offer them adventures while here. They help our economy stay strong, we should treat them with the aloha spirit that Hawaii treats their tourists with.....we need them.

I, and many others, depend on the cruise business for our livelihoods. We thank the cruise industry for coming to our wonderful town.

I, and many others, depend on the cruise business for our livelihoods. If it were not for the cruise business then I would not have any income to pay for my Edhat subscription. We thank the cruise industry for coming to our wonderful town.

It's 3 miles out that you can dump poop. It's also where the pipe from the waste water treatment plant goes (roughly 3 miles out), but that has been treated through a pretty good process first. Many boat owners in the harbor (and yes, I'm talking about many of the tourist boats too), dump their poop 3 miles out instead of using the pump at the end of marina 1. What a shame.

A comment was made about the ship tourists coming to our bars on lower State St. I do not believe that is true. Have you seen the tourist that get off the ship? Most are seniors and they do come to shop. The majority are couples of various ages and the almost seniors love to shop and tour the city. There are a few youngsters with their parents and a lot of single men and women with their friends of same age in groups. Welcome to Santa Barbara and this weekend is just beautiful for them.

Funny how people pick up on certain things.... one person sees a gleaming ship off our harbour while another sees poop. With 7 billions humans on the planet it's amazing we don't see more poop since all coastal communities and all ships have to dispose of theirs and the ocean is the most convenient. But it's not every day that such a hugely reflectant object glistens off our shores. It's pretty dazzling.

According to Ashleigh Davis, marketing director for the Santa Barbara Downtown Orgainization, (as quoted on NoowHawk), "We have heard positive feedback from downtown businesses that they have seen an influx of guests, but we heard that they haven't seen a large increase or decrease in business," she said. "A lot of the visitors head to wine country or destinations they want to go to." Kind of wrecks the, 'they come here to shop" theory. Fear not though ... another cruise ship is coming tomorrow ... maybe in addition to the sewage they toss into the channel, they'll toss a few coins into the local economy.
