What a lot of hostility against these people who want to help the most down and out among us. It is our social duty to attend to the needs of the least among us and while such attempts are always incomplete there is majesty and goodness in the attempt. There is nothing good in the spite of those who won't see and won't help.

what really needs to happen is a strong, very strong push to get folks to STOP giving money. Lots of these folks have a SSI check they get every month. They have access to housing but have to fill out paperwork, they have access to food. Has anyone ever seen a skinny homeless person? There are people who love to sell drugs to the homeless once they have their checks. We have so many programs to help these people, but as long as they can get the extra money for drugs and alcohol they are not going anywhere else. I don't even want to ge started on the young kids who sit on the ground doing nothing and wanting a hand out, and then get mad at you if you don't give them anything.

and now they have the results from the SB county study that shows the majority of deaths of people without homes are drug and alcohol related. With this new ground breaking information the new consolidated organization can finally make homelessness a thing of the past. I'll start holding my breath now.

What difference is this going to make... zero difference! The homeless who beg for money on the street don't use the shelters. They don't want to be bothered with rules, which is why they choose to live on the street. It makes me sick too see what has happened to downtown Santa Barbara. I've lived here only 11 years, but it's been long enough to see this town go downhill. It's just plain embarrassing. My fiance works at one of the hotels down on the beach. She tells me that tourists for the most part thought that Santa Barbara was a much different city, and many will not come back. Do you hear that HELENE!!
