McChicken Bites are nasty. It's like eating straight up dried out breading with no chicken in sight. Sooooo dry. Viva McNuggets!

@980 I agree! I ordered McChicken bites just to see what the fuss was about and like 80% of the chicken was just burnt fried w/ no chicken. Ew. McNuggets for the win.

Chick-Fil-a has chicken strips that actually resemble chicken and aren't covered in batter!! Are they open in SB yet!!

If you like mechanically separated chicken, go for it. Personally I think McNuggets are GROSS!

McChicken Bites were a huge letdown, I agree; Mr. OICU812 humored me on the way home from Mammoth last month and pulled through the drive-through so I could try them (after hearing about 4 radio commercials for them on the drive) - not even worth 25 cents. Not that I eat that much fast food, but I am looking forward to my annual Shamrock Shake.

I used to love the annual Shamrock Shake until a buddy of mine pointed out a few years ago that they taste exactly like Phillips mint-flavored milk of magnesia. Which of course they do. BLECCHHH! I haven't had one since. Thank you, Dennis.

I have never tried mint MOM, or any other flavor. I am sure the Shamrock Shake is probably all chemicals, but it does put a smile on my face, and if I could replicate the flavor with healthy ingredients at home, I would. Oh, maybe I just like green, shake-like stuff - like the Hawaiian Eye we cant get anymore.

My God! The last picture looks like the bottom of a garbage pail! Uuck! Not at all appealing! So much for my Shamrock Shake! I had planned to try one this year.I do like the Mocha Frrappe except the medium size has about 500 calories. Not worth it.

Ha ha, to answer your questions, the last photo is leftover lamb shank with veggies(!) from the new LaFond Wine Bistro in Montecito. Very tasty, but SO heavy I'll be working on it for days!

My new favorite app is foodspotting! It's free, and it is photos of food dishes so you can see what folks are eating locally.

Gawd, what a terrible advertisement for the Wine Bistro! Is that how the dish came, or had it been taken home and reheated a bunch of times?

And I was going to ask about the last pic, which turned out to be one of my favorite foods. Lamb shank = YUM! It did look like burnt chow mein. Yet it somehow managed to also look like real food. (at least it wasn't breaded. ;-))

Braised meats are often very dark in color--the broth takes on a rich caramel color and the veggies are colored by it. Easy too, done in the oven while you do other things like check food apps.... Great over a cheesy garlicky polenta--my fave winter comfort food. m-m-m-m!
