Leave SB and your living expenses would be a whole lot less. My son could not afford SB, moved to Northern Ca. Adorable apt. only $575 a month. Plus an incentive, 1st two months are free. Grounds are green, flowers, swimming pool, hot tub. Pay is the same. Choices we all can make. I may move there a buy a home. Nice 2 bedroom for $130,000.

Roger, the old man who was camped out on the bench on State Street (usually in front of the old Borders / Marshalls) chose to leave his protected housing (Casa Esperanza) because he didn't agree to their policy of holding a third of his income (Social Security or whatever) checks for him as is the shelter's policy.

They do this to encourage saving up enough to have a security deposit and first month's rent to get set up in more permanent housing. They just wanted to hold that money for him....but he didn't like that policy and chose to live on the streets on his own sleeping on a bench instead.

You can lead a horse to water (free room and board and health care courtesy of the citizens of SB) but you can't make him lie down in it.

Will maybe but I wouldn't live in that hole if someone paid me..Living in this neighborHOOD as long as I have and experienced some of the actitives that the Homeless Shelter has draped over this neighborHOOD over the years it wasn't always the Bacara that some people compare it to today. The first few years when Richard ran it there was one HELL of alot of CRACK in the neighborHOOD and I'm not talkin about the GOOD kind. Then there were hookers I think alot of them have passed from aides by now. The Savor might have helped a few get to Heaven, will never know since most homeless deaths in Santa Barbara seem to be labeled Natural Causes...I remember this one old gal had to be well into her 80's she was in a wheel chair. She was taken into the shelter, I guess she was kicked out maybe because no one wanted to clean her up. I don't think she could do it herself she was in a wheel chair. She had a pee bag, and might have had a colostomy also. She was out there awhile several weeks, in the Winter, wheeling herself back and forth around Circle K. Yea that place is more than happy to suck up a grant but they don't always do what they say they are going to do. That old lady had a stroke right there at Cacique and Milpas, I saw her I was the one who called 911 When the fire personnel from Engine 2 got there they took one look at her and radioed for AMR code 3. I know what a stroke is saw my Dad have one he died of it . I hoped that the old woman would pass, she did not deserve to be thrown out on the streets by some dirty poverty pimp that only cares about grants and donations..I remember well too when several people had that third of their social security check supposly saved by the shelter get ripped off by staff members...Old Folks aien't horses and should not be compared as such most are veterans who fought for the FREEDOM of this country so that young idoits and cowards could suck up government grants in the name of homelessness and throw their charges out on the street while pocketing loot. Before one donates their hard earned cash to such an organazation they ought to see what kind of vehicles staff members drive and take alook at their homes..Investigate before throwing your money away in such a crooked organazation. Nice touch that statement (free room and board and health care courtesy of the citizens of Santa Barbara.) That place has nothing on the REAL CITIZENS, of Santa Barbara. I guess the proof is in the pudding though...How many hundreds of people are sleeping on the streets of Santa Barbara with or without a car, or RV? The 10 year, 12 point or whatever plan to end homelessness in Santa Barbara has been horribly unsuccessful and has only made a bigger mess on the streets of Santa Barbara turning the downtown area into a HELL HOLE. But don't ask me ask the real citizens of Santa Barbara..What kind of Country lets it's senior citizens die on the streets..It seems we have a difference of opinion @576. Least I not forget the times that one st... [ more ]
