Nice shots! Sorry for trying to milk you for info but: What lens were you using? How was parking? Were there a lot of other photographers there? Is it like the red carpet at the film festival? Any suggestion for the best time of day for decent lighting on the surfer's faces? Thanks :-)

Not my photos, but there is really no time of day when you can get the light on surfers' faces here on the South Coast. Light is always behind them. And in the winter months, when the surf is highest, the sun is at its lowest. Gotta work with what you got...

Glad it is over, now locals can reclaim the water and the spectacle of wannabees and photo takers will be gone.

We went down on Sunday and watched a few heats. The surfers were great, and it was fun to watch the groms. I haven't been to a surf contest in 25 years, and was surprised of the impact of the surf wear industry yesterday on the crowd. Everyone seemed to want to look like they were in an ad out of a surf magazine. I guess I feel more kinship with the soul surfing crowd.
