Earth Science 101. With all the easy access to answers nowadays with the internet, college seems like trivial. It was and is a great experience, don't get me wrong. As a lifelong surfer of SB I learned early on about the tides from my dad, it is interesting to people who do not even frequent the ocean. Surfers around here are low to medium tide guys depending on the break. Thanks for the refresher info, good read.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Aqua, I use an App called 2012 World Tides by Brainware. Cost $1.99 but there are lots of free Apps available.

... and for low tide fans, don't forget the low low tides approximately six hours after those high high tides.

Any suggestions for good places to photograph this phenomenon? I'm thinking Shoreline Park looking at the harbor with a long lens would be cool. Where else?

Thanks for the comment regarding the low tides too, tide pooling is a blast!

6.2 is high but nowhere near the 7.1 max tides that can occur, check december 23, 2011 or december 13, 2012 chart which also has a low of -1.7 making for nearly nine feet of differnce over seven hours.

The whole picture taking at high tide to document global warming seems a bit moot.

I ? (heart) low tides. I find they make for an exceptional Nordic Walking experience. The combo of firm, yet giving, sands; the ocean scents, the birds, make a complete sensory experience that makes the miles fly by!
