You can be sure that a percentage of all "public accidents" that occur on City property will one day show up in the form of a lawsuit, thus demanding careful documentation. Sometimes it is years later, and many are settled or fought ( by both sides) out of the public view. Dang lawyers.

I learned that in Europe they consider minor holes and roots coming up into a sidewalk to be the public's responsibility to avoid. They see our country as being overly lawsuit happy. I think my fall in to a hole in Puerto Vallarta years ago would be a "public accident" - It was along an unlit dirt sidewalk on a hillside, and suddenly I fell straight down in to a hole. My sister, who was behind me, said from her perspective I just disappeared! Literally I was standing straight up in a hole. That's one I think would be considered a "public accident" - of course in Mexico, I had to pull myself out and keep on walking :)

660P: I think that seems like a perfectly reasonable way of looking at things. I agree we seem to be pretty lawsuit happy. As a kid, if I fell when I wasn't watching where I was going, I knew it was my own fault. Somehow, after becoming an adult it turns into someone else's. Odd. Congrats Roger! Good for you!

CONGRATULATIONS ROGER!!!! Please don't do that other thing again. Life is rough, but we all have to embrase what we can while we have it. I am a cancer survivor, I used to be hot, used to have long hair, never had a scar...until now. I tried to do that thing you did, too. I woke up feeling so dumb and scared myself straight! Life is rough... Life is hard, but Life is also a great gift...
