Just for you info, I care about the homeless regardless of race, some people are down on their luck, or have a disease like alcoholism they aren't willing to deal with. Regardless, they are humans, people like you and me, and should be treated as such even if you don't agree with their way of living. On another note, I am a journalist, and no I don't drink martinis from 10-2, in fact I rarely drink anymore, but it is humorous you mentioned that because I have done some of my better writing in my younger years while intoxicated, guess you are more expressive or more of a creative thinker after a few. Smile, look out the window, it's a beautiful day. Take a walk and get out of your head for a while then maybe you will feel better. Happy Friday SB, as the Holidays approach let's enjoy ourselves and help out our fellow man.

There's going to be a signal light at Cacique when the 101 bridge construction project completes. There's not even a pedestrian crosswalk there now, so one wonders why people (of any housing status) try to make it across there? I guess it's too much trouble to go down to the light and cross and come back up? Better to risk one's life for saving a few feet of walking? The crossings at Yanonali and Ortega, on the other hand, appear to be pedestrian crossings, with paint and signs. But no one stops for them, and the speed there is far higher than at Cacique, which is typically a crawl. That makes those far more dangerous because people get led to believe they can cross there...and cars don't even see them.

@964 Do you think I know who you are? There are many journalists in town who are drunks. I suspect some are drunks because they are shut down by their news agencies from reporting some of the news in Santa Barbara if I was younger and a real journalist. I might be one of them. Or several as I drank alot. @997 I cross at Cacique and Milpas because there are several barriers to jump behind when a drunk, or speeding driver is headed toward you. Red lights and cross walks don't stop those people..

Stop lights and crosswalks do stop most drivers. Those wanting to cross at Cacique-Milpas should go half a block down to the light and then cross. The problem at Yanonali is not only only the lack of a light, but the lack of markers --- perhaps there could be flashing lights of some sort or markers set into the street. It is particularly difficult at night or dusk with people wearing dark clothing, as most do. It's amazing, too, that bicyclists that dart in and out along Milpas have not been hit. Because pedestrians have a right of way, they really do need to realize that often they are very difficult to see and being right is no help when you're dead or seriously injured.

A little off topic but, i live on the east side and go to the gas stations down there by cacique. Today in the time it took me to fill up my beater three people asked me for money. I turned down all three but the last one didn't want to take no for an answere. I asked him what he was going to do with 75 cents and he started throwing gang signs at me and acted like he was going to attack me. I laughed it off and drove away but this kind of thing happens every time. Im not sure how to react or even what the proper thing to do is.
